@Mooshhdesigns you will have to contact Etsy Support.
I did, they said they're working on it but are not responding to my questions for how long this is going on, what I can do myself etc. So It's really hard to get in touch with them. If I know that this issue is going on for years for example, that would give me more insight that it will not be resolved soon. Hope to get some more information on here
There is nothing you can do but just be patient.
@Mooshhdesigns -- Even if you don't see PayPal as being active in your Etsy Payments, buyers can still pay via other EP acceptable methods. While PayPal is part of Etsy Payments, any PP payments made by the buyers are not sent directly to the seller's own PayPal account. The PP is Etsy's own business account and sellers have no access to it at all. Some new sellers do not understand that, so they is why I mentioned it. @TBQSC I don't think you understand the problem, or your comment is applicable.
Buyers cannot check out of the OP's shop via Paypal. That is not included the Etsy payment options available in their shop. The PP account the money is going into is irrelevant.
Many buyers, like myself, almost exclusively check out via Paypal because it is convenient.
I don't know how widespread it is, but so far I had only seen this issue with German shops.
@audreytherese I completely understood the OP ... I am sorry you did not understand me! I will try to be more clearer in my responses. Basically I was just trying to point out:
@TBQSC I still think your comments about the money going into Etsy's PayPal instead of a seller's account is irrelevant. I cannot recall a new seller ever being confused and asking why funds are not going directly to their PP account, at least not since Etsy payments was set up and things like checks and direct paypal have become obsolete on this platform.
However, I have seen new sellers state that PP is not an option for the buyers to use checking out, which is completely different. And PP is often much more convenient than "other acceptable payment methods via EP" since people like me keep accounts saved in their PP accounts instead of carrying around credit cards to input when checking out. It's much more convenient to just choose PP to pay. If PP is not an option, I very well may bypass that shop for one that has more convenient checkout process for me. And that is the OP's concern.
Sellers in Europe with new shops are not seeing PayPal added to their Etsy payments. This has been going on for months. Etsy has not said why. My thoughts are an issue between Etsy and PayPal.
Thank you! That's making it a lot more clear for me.. I am really disappointed with the fact that theyre not telling what's going on, not responding to emails and I can't even send messages in their live chat support anymore..
And indeed, even though payment is still possible with credit card, I think PP is the most common way, especially in Europe where creditcards are nog that common to use..
@ModAngie - can you help this seller?
We're experiencing the same problem, unfortunately. It appears to be a site-wide problem that affects European sellers.
From what we've observed by looking at other sellers, there seems to be a cutoff around July / August of last year. Shops opened after that date seem unable to offer PayPal as a payment option. As far as I was able to tell, only EU sellers are affected.
My personal speculation is that Etsy might be trying to phase out PayPal because it's costly for them. But instead of removing it for all shops worldwide, which could upset sellers with high-performing stores, they’ve quietly stopped offering it to new shops instead. Of course, this is just a theory, and I don’t have any concrete evidence to back it up.
If that’s really the case though, it creates an unfair two-tier system: older shops with more payment options, and newer ones that are at a disadvantage from the start (And it's worth pointing out that new shops pay the same listing fees as everyone else when adding products, so they should receive the same level of service).
Etsy hasn't provided any official explanation, and in our case Etsy support has ghosted us. It's really frustrating.
I’d encourage everyone affected by this to reach out to Etsy Support. If enough of us speak up, we might eventually get some clarity, or even a solution.
Exactly! That's what I'm thinking too, if I'm paying the same amount I should get the same service.
Etsy support has also ghosted me, I am not able to start a chat with them and their replies to my e-mails take at least a week. All replies stay the same "We are looking into the problem in your store". It is really really frustrating that they're dishonest.
I also posted on the reddit Etsy Seller community, but haven't received replies from others unfortunately. I hope others will speak up as well.
Hopefully we will get this payment option soon.. Thanks for your reply!
@PepperPigeon I had the same thought when I heard that PayPal only shops (in countries where Etsy Payments is not available) are going to be closed.
Unfortunately there is a lot of unfairness on Etsy. Different countries have different benefits or privileges. But I guess that's just how it is.
I have to wonder how many shops will be forced to close due to this PayPal issue and whether or not it will further negatively impact Etsy’s stock price….investors will likely not be pleased at the loss of revenue from so many closed shops.
