I'm writing to ask about an issue I've encountered with my new shop, based in the European Union.
PayPal does not appear as a payment option for buyers, not even through Etsy Payments. In my case, PayPal simply does not show up at all, regardless of the browser or device used.
My shop is still very new and has limited activity, but I believe it's important to have access to all available payment options from the beginning, especially PayPal, which many buyers trust and prefer.
So far:
- Etsy Payments is fully set up and active.
- I’ve received vague responses from support, such as “PayPal is currently not available for your shop,” with no further details or solutions.
- When I opened my shop and set up payments, I didn’t see any warning or notice that PayPal would be restricted.
Additionally, based on what I’ve read in forums and community discussions, this issue is affecting other new EU-based shops as well, which suggests there might be a broader restriction in place that hasn't been clearly communicated.
What’s even more frustrating is that older shops in the same region do have PayPal enabled, which creates an unfair and unequal situation for those of us who are just getting started. Not having access to the same tools puts new sellers at a clear disadvantage, with no explanation as to why.
I would like to know:
- Is there any current restriction preventing new EU shops from using PayPal?
- Why doesn’t it appear as an option, even with Etsy Payments active?
- Is there a way to activate it, or is it expected to be enabled at a later stage?
I would really appreciate any clear and updated information on this. I believe all sellers (new or experienced) deserve access to the same basic features from day one.
