I created a Pattern website this past week, and noticed the stats being kept by Etsy for my Pattern page seems totally inaccurate. While I've pretty much resigned to the fact that Etsy stats aren't completely reliable (I can never reconcile the dashboard stats vs. the actual Stats vs. Ad clicks from the Marketing for Promoted Listings), the numbers I'm seeing for my Pattern site seems highly implausible and grossly inflated.
For example, my daily avg visits right now is ~40, and my daily avg total views ~70.
On it's own, that doesn't seem wild... it's about the avg traffic I get from my newly started Etsy shop.
However, the only places I have released the actual URL/website info is through my social media, where I have a very limited following, which made me highly doubtful that I was getting this type of traffic already.
On top of that, I have Google Analytics set up for both my Etsy and Pattern... and while I know GA doesn't necessary track Etsy well because it can't track visits via the Etsy app, that shouldn't be a problem for the Pattern site. And I assume there shouldn't be bot clicks that Etsy is counting since there shouldn't be bots on Pattern?
And from GA, I'm seeing about avg 3 daily visits during this same stretch... and I can tell GA is working, as it tracks my visits when I visit the site myself.
Just curious whether anyone else with a Pattern site has noticed this?
I'm pretty much now just excluding the Pattern stats from my overall stats from Etsy when I'm doing my analysis. But it just seems super odd, because Etsy seems to have specific times of when these visits are happening, and I can't imagine these stats are being inflated out of thin air, but none of these visits match GA.
Anyone have any thoughts?
I gave up on Pattern years ago. It's not a well maintained option.
I don't worry about daily stats. I look at long term stats of 30 days so I can see the fluctuation to see if changes are merited.
Google will only be good for a bit longer. I believe this year or next Google is change the analytics and Etsy hasn't said a peep about being able to use the new ones.
Google and Etsy stats don't match. Never will. They work differently.
Thank you so much for responding! I'm in agreement that Pattern is poorly maintained, and I know Etsy has pretty much stopped supporting it. I'm just using it temporarily as a quick stepping stone before I have the time to create my own site... but I wanted something a little more polished looking than my Etsy shop in the meantime.
And yes... I don't generally worry too much about the daily stats, and usually just leverage the 30 day stats to spot trends.. and even that has a lot of noise since I don't have YoY comparatives yet.... but... I was curious to see what type of traffic is coming to my Pattern site since I just started it up, so I've been keeping a closer eye than usual. And it just jumped out as stats that seem totally implausible.
And I know comparing GA vs Etsy stats is like comparing apples to oranges, but in this case, the GA stats for the Pattern site just seem more realistic, so I am just curious whether this is a known glitch of Etsy stats for other Pattern users.
Thanks for taking the time though to reply!
I have both Etsy and Pattern and look at stats from both Esty and GA, but treat them differently because they are. For me, I have doubts about Etsy stats in general as even internally they do not reconcile. Maybe I am missing something, but on Dashboard for Pattern it says Visits 136 Views 203 for the selection 'This Month". But in Stats for "This Month" it is Visits 136 Views 35. Similar discrepancies for the Etsy Channel. In April it said I had 476 Views - a huge anomaly - but when you actually add up the views noted below, it was 97. I'm sure there is an explanation, but when items are called the same thing, one would expect the same result across the platform.
I just set up an Etsy Pattern website and it is not showing as secure (https). I have read so many articles and posts about this, and the best I can figure out (because I am a nurse, definitely NOT a computer person), is that the security certificate will be issued in the next few hours? There is no way I would share a site without https to my friends and family. TIA!!
@ClemonsCrafts Hi, it should. Give it a few more hours. It was the same with mine. I actually opened a help request with pattern but they said it can take up to 24 hours. By the end of the day it was secure.
Oh thank you so very much! I am relieved!!
