I have an Etsy Pattern website and I've done all the DNS and CNAME info according to the how to's but when I put in "www.________" before my web address (my personal domain name), I get a "This site can't be reached" error. If I just put in my domain name and ".com" without the "www." it loads ok. Problem is, there are a lot of links to my website that I had with a different server, and now all those links are broken and return the error screen message. Also, I cannot submit a sitemap to Google analytics because of the "www." prefix, and the server doesn't recognize the address. Soooo, I need a solution. My web domain service said it was on the 3rd party's end (Pattern), not the host end. Tech help or a Pattern specialist would be greatly appreciated. THX.
Sellers who use Pattern have been complaining about its problems for years. Etsy hasn't supported it for years either. Unfortunately, you'll probably have to figure out your own solution. You could try searching ''Pattern'' in the forum search box to see if anything in those old OP's could help.
Depending on where you have your name registered, there might be an area to select for how you want to be found, with www. or without. I use GoDaddy and have the option and options to redirect.
Thanks. I have this too and it doesn't allow a redirect from the pattern CNAME info because it is essentially the same address.
@JetAgeStudio : Not sure I understand exactly how you currently have set things up, but on most DNS providers, you do something like:
1) Add an A Record for your non-www (naked) domain (e.g., example.com or using @ as the host) that points directly to your Pattern website's IP address or a server that can handle the redirect.
2) Create a CNAME record for the www subdomain, pointing to the naked domain's address or another server. (Sometimes you can also use an A record for the www subdomain that points to the same IP address as the non-www (naked) domain).
Have you seen the instructions on https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000337787-How-to-Connect-a-Third-Party-Domain-to-Pattern
You will need to contact the company where you got you .com from. I have had mine for years and they both work so it's the way it was set up.
I DID! I asked them AND I got in touch with Etsy help, and I specifically asked for a Pattern Expert to help. He said to contact my domain server. I DID. They said it was an issue with Pattern. I am really REALLY needing someone at ETSY to help with this issue.
Listen, I did ALLL of this. I NEED ETSY to help. I appreciate the ''oh, try this, try that". STOP, I need ETSY to give me a solution. I am paying them for this service, they need to offer assistance directly. The Pattern web help is WOEFULLY inadequate. Even when you go to your Pattern dashboard and click the "Pattern help" link, it goes to an "uh oh, that page is not available."
