Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

Sales are pretty low in February for me as well.

I have checked all my orders and I found one interesting thing is that I would have got my usual sales if etsy have not blocked and cancelled some of my orders.

Basically what happening to me is when I get an order all my orders are going in to payment process mode and gets cancelled after a day or two.

There are total 14 orders that got cancelled this way in the month of February only.

I have tried to contact etsy help on this issue but they are saying that those orders are not passing etsy’s internal checks that’s why they got cancelled.

Even while writing this today, I am having two orders in payment process stage amount summing to approx. $4.6k. And I know both of them will be cancelled at Etsy’s will.

It probably etsy systems making sure its not fraud. With the dollar amounts that your items cost fraud is probably higher. Also in case you didnt know already seller protection stops at $250. You can read more about that in the forums and how a claim on a item that is over $250 works out.

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

I have been selling these high  valued items since I started my shop never got issues like that until I was accepting payments via paypal only. But this issue is persistent after I opted for etsy payments through Payoneer.

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

@Twoyoungz Etsy is not cancelling your Orders. It is the Payment Processor. If you have had 14 Orders cancelled then there is an issue with either Payoneer or the Buyer as Etsy Payments in India use Payoneer. Perhaps, you should ask Payoneer why they are declining the Orders??

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

Buyer’s money are deducted from the bank so it’s not a payment processor issue, but after two days of awaiting period etsy is cancelling the order that is what they confirmed when I raised a help ticket on this issue.

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

@Twoyoungz Actually, It is a Payment Processor issue. Etsy has no direct access to a Buyer's Bank / CC / PayPal. The money may be showing as deducted from the Buyer's account, but it is stalled by Pay Pal or other Processor. After the "checks" are conducted the money moves either to Etsy or back to the Buyer.

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

I also agree with After9Marbles. The whole Payment processing thing is most often due to the payment processor making sure it isn't a fraudulent order.  The payment processor is protecting you by having those checks in place. Would you really want to get an order without them checking? Especially with your items price point being way over the max for seller protection.

There was a time a few years ago when the fraudulent orders were a bit out of control here and elsewhere. The system didn't catch them all immediately and would put some of them through only to cancel them like the next day or something AFTER the seller had already shipped the order. When they canceled the orders the next day they also deducted the funds from shop payment accounts. So that means sellers were out both the product they had shipped already and the funds from that product. It was a hot mess and I am very glad they have improved the fraud checks.

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

I agree that at some points, etsy might be protecting me from the fraudulent transactions but if it’s true then why etsy do not share actual reason for the cancellation of an order?

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

@Twoyoungz: "... why etsy do not share actual reason for the cancellation ..." Because it would be illegal to do so almost everywhere. Plus the payment processor may be forbidden from sharing this information with Etsy, too.

Re: Orders getting cancelled after entering payment processing mode

Because of what you sell…

Those cancelled payments are most likely from stolen credit cards. Fraudsters target high value jewelry items they know they can easily resell.

I’m actually surprised that you haven’t had more of this issue in the past.
