Hi everyone,
I run a small handmade jewelry shop on Etsy and wanted to share something that’s been really upsetting for me.
One of my best-selling listings a clover-shaped charm necklace I put together myself was recently removed for not meeting Etsy’s Creativity Standards. It had been in my shop for over a year with no problems and had great reviews. I even promoted it through Etsy Ads, and it was getting a lot of attention.
I was really surprised and confused when it got taken down. I always try to follow the rules and make sure everything in my shop is original and carefully made. Just a few days before this, another simple necklace I made with a red crystal heart charm was also removed.
I’ve reached out to Etsy Support, but it’s starting to feel discouraging. I’m putting in so much effort to grow my shop, and these removals without clear reasons are really hard to deal with.
Has anyone else gone through something similar? I’d appreciate any thoughts or advice.
Thanks for reading.
Do you make the charm yourself or is it a purchased piece that you put on a necklace? If it's a purchased piece, likely other sellers (here or elsewhere) could be using the same charm in the same way. If it's a best seller, your photo could be 'stolen' and used on other sites. The Etsy bots will search for like photos and you get dinged as a reseller. Have you checked that your photos aren't being used elsewhere? If they are, you must police that IP and show Etsy proof that those photos have been taken by you and stolen by someone else.
@BasaksJewelry: "... I put together myself ..." While we can only speculate on what the actual trigger was that flagged your listing, one thing to consider is that rules for Hand Assembled also say "to create a unique end-product". So if two shops are putting the same charm on the same chain only one of them can be unique.
Do you actually handmake all these items? I have done a reverse image on your Floral enamel huggie hoop earrings and they are also found on eBay, amazon, Ali express and other sites.
Reselling is not allowed here. You are suppose to be the maker of your items or the designer. You need to list production partners also. Read the rules here on what can be sold and cannot be sold.
Someone — most likely from China — has copied your listing images and posted them on AliExpress, Temu, Shein, or a similar platform. Etsy's bot mistakenly flagged you as the reseller and removed your listing. It's frustrating and unfair, but unfortunately, this happens.
Reach out to Etsy customer support — they should be able to help you get it resolved.
I see no evidence that you are making anything enamel...which requires special glazes, bases & ovens. That's a very different situation and setup from taking a pair of pliers and bending wire.
Not sure if it was anything enameled, but that jumped out at me.
finally, your production partner cannot 'collaborate' with you to design an item. YOU Have to be the designer 100%. That information is from your about area... I collaborate with my production partner to design my products. In Istanbul /TURKEY
That jumped out at me, too.
Your shop looks full of mass produced items, thet were neither designed by you, or hand crafted by you, using jewellery tools, to make an unique item.
