I am soooo frickin tired of this. For the fees we all pay, the least we're entitled to is a feature that's been offered on etsy for years to actually W.O.R.K.!!!
I just now listed a new item. I'm VERY careful to adhere to etsy instructions to create rectangular images that etsy can display square as well as rectangular (because it's easier for sellers to do the image work than have a programmer code for the versatility.... like eBay does). And yet my retangular image... as it's being displayed where etsy is formatting for SQUARE images (like the thumbnail) is shoved way over to the right, with the right side of the image cut off. There's NO WAY for me to correct the way it's being displayed. I have NOT made a thumnail adjustment. The thumbnail adjustment doesn't work. I actually tried just now, to see if there was any way to move the image to the left and center it... but couldn't)... And now etsy has introduced some new HELL as far as how images are being displayed.
LOOK at my shop home page... the first image of a flower picture button. OMG!!! Soooooooooooo frickin' unprofessional
It's a rectangular image like etsy wants, with the button centered in the rectangle. Without ANY adjustment, the thumbnail should be centered and sized perfectly. Instead, the thumbnail is zoomed in AND off-shifted with dead space on the left. This is something new. Just happened. Buttons I listed earlier today are displaying accurately.

WTH etsy!!!! What The HELL????
I find that the less Etsy features I use, the easier it is to run a shop here.
@OneEyeCatStudio
I agree. I was working fine without using the Thumbnail adjustment. THIS is something etsy just did. I did NOT use the thumbnail adjustment. This is how my uploaded rectangular image was modified by etsy. It's a button centered in an image 2667x2000 pixels. I CAN'T fix what etsy has done... I don't know how. I can't even figure out a workaround.
I tried the thumbnail to see if i could at least center what etsy did... but that didn't work... so I had no choice but to leave it as is.
I can't believe I'm the only one seeing this...
I had a ton of trouble with it, until someone told me to crop them to squares before uploading them, and now it works (almost) every time. Rectangular images are ideal, but for the first one I cant seem to get it to work.
OK gang... so I'm going to upload my first image twice (both rectangular).
Right now it's a rectangular image with no thumbnail adjustment on my part. The zoom and off-shift is all on etsy.
Now I'm going to upload the SAME image but crop it to a square.... and make that my first image. Then sit back and see how etsy displays the thumbnail.
Stay tuned
OMG... I swear etsy is going to be responsible for my drinking.
I just uploaded the SAME image... 2667x2000.
The first one is zoomed and off-shifted by etsy, not me (what started me on this rant).
The SAME image, repositioned to be the first image, is now displaying correctly as a thumbnail (again, no adjustment by me...). That's the one i was going to crop to a square to see if that would get the thumbnail to display correctly. But I didn't need to do that, the thumbnail displayed correctly.
So, two rectangular images... both the SAME image... but each one displaying the thumbnail differently (adjustments by etsy).
If you want to see something fun, I've left both of those uploaded images live on the listing. I have NOT done a thumbnail adjustment on either one. BOTH are an upload of the EXACT same image, sized 2667x2000. Just look at the way the first two images are displayed in the column of images on the left side. Jeeeez.....

THIS is the problem with etsy modifying code and testing LIVE without sandbox testing first. Gawd Da&%##^MN it!!
@SewlyButtons When I click into this listing, looking at the Left Column of small photos going down, the second one down is chopped off slightly on the right side. But when I'm viewing that same photo while on the listing page, in its regular sized large view, nothing is cut off (it looks good). That's strange.
Something has definitely changed recently. I went to change my Profile photo the other day, and a photo I've used frequently before, would not go in this time (red banner said something about problem with the photo). So I thought, Hmmm, this is different.
@ChillwolfArt
Exactly! BOTH of those are the exact same uploaded image. The difference is whatever etsy did to them. Yet when you're scrolling through the images in the listing they all appear correctly.
I just wish they would check things before they push new code live. It would so avoid all the fricking glitches and headaches we deal with all the time. But... it would be the professional thing to do... so probably just wishful thinking
This has been going on for months, the only way I've found to get around it, is to make my photos more square.
make my photos more square.
iykyk
I contacted etsy about this issue many times, but they always say it is a technical issue our team will solve it soon.
Etsy's service is just like hell. They need only charges from sellers, and whenever things come for sellers support etsy always failed.
ME TOO!!! Ridiculous doing it over and over and over.,.
