Jump to solution

I have tired and tested multiple times when searching my shop or products on multiple devices to see if it shows, I can't find my products or shop even when typing in my shop name. I don't think my shop is being indexed correctly. Even with a keyword rich titles and descriptions still not showing.

This is not a technical issue.

Etsy's search engine is not designed to show exact matches of their entered phrase to customers.

It is designed as a browsing style display that shows you items it THINKS you want to see - popular items in that category, matches for one keyword or more.

Your items are in there SOMEWHERE, but probably don't rank as high as other items that have sold multiple times, or items with better SEO.

For example, you are calling your wax melts "candles" in the title, which will confuse the search engine. Always be specific - don't just shotgun related terms into the search engine hoping to catch someone's attention.

Your single word tags are not helping you get found, either. Tags need to be 2 - 4 word phrases or collections of words instead.

Just as a side note, you are not allowed to sell factory made ceramic wax melters unless YOU yourself made them. They are not considered supplies on Etsy.

Your store is indexed. Etsy only shows the top 15,600 results for any search term, and results are customized so everyone sees something different, depending on their previous search and buying history.

Start by reading the Etsy Seller Handbook section on How Search works and especially how to formulate your titles and tags.

One of your titles: Orange and Cranberry explosive fruity burst of aroma vegan friendly soy wax smelling candles 12 hours lasting UK Made handcrafted valentines (140 characters). Search engines now like titles that are about 50 to 80 characters long, including spaces and punctuation. Too long or too short won't rank as high, all other factors being equal.

The first 30 characters of your title should say WHAT you are selling. You are not selling Orange and Cranberry explosive fruity burst of aroma. You are selling a Vegan Soy Candle, so that should be first. One or two keyword phrases for the search engine is enough. Use the 2nd half of your title to tell the customer something more they might want to know about your product, such as size, smell, color, etc. Save the poetic flowery language for your description. Customers are more likely to click on shorter titles that get to the point quickly.

Titles should sound more like a partial sentence than a long list of keywords. Customers will be more likely to read and click on your title if you get to the point.

The first sentence or two of your description should use some keyword phrases someone would type into a search engine to find a product like yours, while describing your product and talking about the benefits of owning such a product.

In your description you say this product does NOT ship to the US, but in your postage section, you say it does. Which is it? US buyers are more than 25% of all buyers on Etsy, so if you don't ship here, you are cutting out a big part of your market. If you do ship here, give weights in both grams and ounces because most people here have no idea how big a gram is. They might also want to know the size of the jar in inches and cms.

While there is no penalty for repeating words in your tags, it is a waste of space to do so. The Etsy search will pull words from 2 or more tags to match what was searched for, so a tag doesn't even have to be a keyword phrase as long as you can make one by combining words in 2 or more tags. You are allowed 13 tags and each tag can be a maximum of 20 characters, so you should try to fill each tag as full as you can. A tag should never be a single word.

You are in the UK, so your return policy is illegal. You must meet 3 requirements: 1)You must give 14 days to notify of a return and another 14 days to return it. On Etsy, the closest option is 30 days. 2)You must have a GDPR Privacy Policy posted in your store. and 3)You must show your physical address and an email address to contact  you in your About section. If any of those three are missing, your return policy is voided and replaced with they now have a year and a day to request a refund and they don't even have to return the merchandise.

@TheSmelliesShop: You can always check to see if your items are indexed by searching within your own shop.

You need to give up on the concept of Etsy search providing the results that you expect. Due to "personalized searches" there are many many factors that affect listing placement and the relative weight of each factor probably changes constantly. Even exact word matches to your title no longer ensure that you will appear on page 1. Etsy is proud of the fact that they provide search results which they think you will actually purchase regardless of what you actually searched for.

Keep in mind that if everyone on this forum searched for the exact same phrase they would all get different results. Your listing may be appearing on page 251 and Etsy is only showing the first 250 pages to the world.

Also, you need to initially drive your own traffic and sales so that the algorithm learns that people want what you are selling.

There is a very interesting post at https://community.etsy.com/t5/Marketing-Your-Business/Etsy-search-is-moving-away-from-relevancy/td-p... that you may want to take the time to read.
