I feel like I am failing miserably at selling on Etsy. I had one sale, and to be honest it was my daughter. She asked me to ship some seeds and soap to her and I told her that she needed to buy it from me. other than that, I have had no sales.
I started adding and renewing listings. There is not a lot, but unlike some other seed sellers, I actually collect my seeds homegrown. I don't have a farm lol, just get a lot of seeds from what I grow. I don't expect to get rich, more of a hobby at this point.
Anyway, my point. When I got my first sale, I received a notification that I had a sale. I have the Etsy sellers app installed. I usually log in at least every few days, and like I said I have been adding some listings lately. But I broke my finger and listings were hard to type for me.
I logged in today and boom, had two sales waiting...to be shipped today. I went into panic mode, haven't had any real sales as of yet. These are literally my first sales so I didn't want to screw it up. I had to package and label everything on the fly. Thankfully neither one of them sent me a message. Missed the mail carrier and just chased her down the street because she was doing our block. What a save lol.
Lesson learned...log in every day. But don't they notify you normally, especially if you have the app?
I get both a notification on the app and email. I also login to my shop at least twice a day just to be sure I don’t miss anything
@FloridaGardeningSeed: You are correct about how it should be, but this forum is full of reports about issues with app and eMail notifications. The consensus is that a seller needs to check their shop for messages and orders at least daily via a browser until these issues are resolved.
Thank you, guess that was more of a rant on my part lol. Had to be my very first sale...
@FloridaGardeningSeed Yay, 2 sales! I think you're allowed to extend the shipping date if something like this happens. Keep checking daily. Usually one sale follows after another. Hope your broken finger gets better soon.
oh another soapmaker
My shop originated as a soap store, but they weren't selling. I transitioned to seeds cause I have a lot of those. They aren't really selling either. But I throw a few soaps in now and again. This weekend I am going to go through my soaps and do a photo shoot with them and see if I can't push some out.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. Finger is getting better. They put me out of work for a while...back now but it still looks all wonky. Hiding it from everybody lol. Gotta work...
I still get the emails but I use them only as back up. I always check my shop daily. It's good to have back up but really a seller should always check their shop daily. There are other things that Etsy notifies sellers of that do not always come out in emails.
Yeah, definitely lesson learned. I haven't sold anything yet so I guess I just didn't expect it. Glad I caught it
Light a candle and relax while you package your items
you may even find you work faster when your energy is “slower”
I have a completely separate email I use for Etsy. I have the email app set up on my phone. When I see a red notice on that email app then I know it’s either a SALE, shipping notification or bank deposit
Thanks for the tips!
I stopped getting them about 15 months ago, for some reason.
Definitely learned a lesson with this one. Thanks for your reply. I will pay more attention. I guess the fact that I hadn't sold anything yet made me lax about it and assumed that I would get the app notification.
The sales where i didnt received the Chaching notification were made though offsite adds.
Hello
I am so sorry about your finger, I hope you get better soon. When I looked at your store, I saw that you do not use videos in your listings. Actually, wouldn't it be great if you took videos of the products you produce in their natural environment? After all, the customers who will buy from you will try to grow these seeds in their homes like you did. I also recommend that you increase your photos. I recommend that you enter the app several times a day and allow notifications.
@FloridaGardeningSeed In response, I think if you add the fragrance notes for your Abalone and Sea soap in your listing they may sell. Something like, This cold process soap offers a refreshing coastal escape, perfect for those who love clean, aquatic fragrances with a fresh ocean scent of daylily, sea spray, watery florals, and a hint of musk. Hope this helps and you make lots of sales!
May I use your description here lol. I am definitely not that creative, but will work on it.
Mine are hit and miss, I sometimes hear phone cha-Ching, but then next time doesn't show up on iPad or phone. I lurk way too much so I can see if there is a sale though.
@FloridaGardeningSeed Yes, you can use it.
Thank you! I saved your shop. Will buy from you soon...have a few bdays to buy for coming up.
@FloridaGardeningSeed Even a broken finger shouldn't stop you from logging into your shop at least once a day.
Would you leave a brick & mortar business unattended?
edited to say - sorry about the finger - I had a broken toe once - very painful!
I appreciate your bluntness lol. I am the same way. Just haven't sold anything in well, ever. Not an excuse, just a reason. I just relied on notifications.
And omg I'm a 30 year xray tech. I will never again say it is "just a broken finger" lol...or toe for that matter. I guess you don't realize how much every part of your body needs it to function lol
And now the stupid finger is a "mallet finger". I can type with it now.
I currently get about half of my etsy emails. Just stop relying on the emails and check your shop more often.
I have always received notifications of sales with the app and have never had problems with it. I get both the number and cha-ching. I got one this morning, so I know it still works, and I have an old phone. Try downloading the app again and see what happens.
I just logged into my acct as per the many helpful ppl here and I had two messages that i assume were spam so I reported them. Both started out as just saying hello and asking about my problem here.
Congrats on your sales.
Don`t be discouraged it can take a while to get momentum.
Good luck with it all
