Does the new algorithim not understand "chronological order" with newest first? Yikes! This keeps happening... Reviews are synced and then the newest reviews literally disappear and old ones are showing first? Anyone else experiencing this in their shop?
I can sort your reviews by newest first - they are all in order.
@FunByJannieMac Go to your front page and click on "most recent".
Thanks and I understand this... BUT, unfortunately, it appears that Etsy is making the decisions! Buyers aren't paying attention to where it is set for them and it isn't even SET! It defaults back to SUGGESTED
@FunByJannieMac wrote:It defaults back to SUGGESTED
and that's an Etsy thing!
In my experience, this has been the case for many years. The default sorting of reviews has been "Suggested" ever since I can remember. "Most Recent" has never been a sticky option.
Just another case where Etsy doesn’t understand that potential new buyers like to see that a shop has had very recent great reviews and not ones showing first from months ago! When I see this on other websites I’m disinclined to purchase from a shop whose last review was months ago as I think, right or not, that no one wants their product anymore. Etsy, again, is cutting their own throat and the seller’s by keeping reviews from updating to the most recent AUTOMATICALLY!
I have sent several emails to past buyers and not one of them has replied. I honestly believe, at least for me, that they have stopped me from sending emails to my recent buyers. I would really like to know Why they stopped this starting 8/1. Same thing with Ratings. I have not received One of them since 7/1/25. Something is wrong with etsy. They definitely stop making changes because they only make things worse. At least for me. Now I would like etsy to fix their errors asap.
@Marbrykers Are you sending emails, like writing one with Gmail or your email provider, OR are you using Convo's? Convo's are the messaging system inside Etsy.
If you're sending convo's to recent buyers, they won't see them unless they log into Etsy and read them (unless they have Etsy notifications enabled, but few do). Ratings? As in, buyer feedback? That is also something that few buyers do anymore unless they are regular Etsy shoppers.
And this has to do with Reviews, how????
@FunByJannieMac The threads continued into other things that etsy mucks up. There is no need to be so rude. We are other sellers - not the ones making the changes.
@Marbrykers Etsy can’t stop you from sending emails. They won’t even know you are doing it.
Are you talking about messages sent through the Etsy platform ? Or are you talking about email (such as Gmail, Outlook, etc.)? There's a big difference.
Etsy has no control over your email but they do have control over Etsy messages.
I am sending my buyers messages thru the Etsy emails.
Etsy may block someone from sending messages, if they send too many in a short period of time, and Etsy thinks you are spamming, or past buyers could report your messages as spam, or they may not have read the messages, or they may be ignoring them. It's really hard to know.
I have seen weird patterns with reviews being left recently, but hard to know why or what is going on.
I know someone in another thread thought they had over 20 reviews left that weren't showing up.
@Marbrykers: I know that it may sound like semantic nit-picking, but it is important when trying to help diagnose an issue.
There are no Etsy eMails that a seller can send just Etsy Messages (Convos) which the person may receive an eMail copy of if they subscribed to that notification. As pointed out, many (most?) do not.
"I have sent several emails to past buyers and not one of them has replied." It is possible that your Messages were classified as spam if they were considered unsolicited non-transactional Messages.
Back to the question of the sort default for reviews...
The default has been 'suggested' for a very long time. I really like that on the buyer app you can sort by highest or lowest rating as well. It helps weed out problem sellers when I'm shopping.
I do remember looking at reviews under an item I was looking at on Etsy, and sorting them by most recent, and seeing the reviews out of date a bit; as I saw a review for August 8, 2025, then one for July 2, 2025, and then one for July 30, 2025.
@FunByJannieMac I see your reviews in chronological order. So, I don't see the problem.
