New seller, is this message Spam / Scam ?

Hello Etsy seller family

I received this message this morning, from a "potential buyer", called "Abbie".

I'm new, my shop is only 2 weeks old.

I'm fairly certain this is spam/scam, and I will mark it as spam, but I just wanted to share, just in case as I'm new to Etsy.

Thank you all kindly in advance.

=====

One-word message: "Hello"

And an orange QR code, saying:

"Etsy is implementing an enhanced verification process to ensure security."

"As a result, sales in your store have been temporarily suspended until the verification process is complete."

To restore the operation of your store and receive new orders, please follow the instructions:"

Then it says:

BE SURE TO SCAN THIS USING YOUR PHONE"

"As soon as the verification is complete, your Etsy store will resume operations immediately. We appreciate your attention. Etsy."

Scam.  Don't scan the QR.  If you weren't verified, your shop would be on vacation.  It's not.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, my shop still needs to be verified, I'm still waiting for Etsy to verify my ID (Passport etc), it's been over 2 weeks, and still no notification to say I'm verified. I guess I just have to keep waiting. Thanks again for the reply.

It's a scam, they have been targeting new sellers for a while now, hoping that they will fall for the scams, some have, and some like yourself are either wise to scam attempts or come here to check. Ignore it, do not scan the QR code, enter any details, etc. Send the message to spam.

Re: New seller, is this message Spam / Scam ?

this is on every message

To stay protected, stay on Etsy. Never follow links to other sites, and don’t share contact, account, or financial info with anyone in MessagesLearn how to spot spam.

the QR code is a link to another site, that's what QR codes do, take you to another site

where they will ask for finance info.

it's 100% scam, as etsy says.

...

and your shop is not suspended, it's fine

@TheElysiumGallery: You can always check if your shop is suspended by going to your shop home page. If Etsy has suspended / closed the shop, no listings will be visible and will be replaced by a message put up by Etsy.
