When trying to send a new convo (on a different matter than previous communications) to someone who we have communicated with in the past, the new convo is appended to a random existing thread.
Also, sent convos are showing up in the inbox.

It sounds like this change for star seller:
"In June, we’ll introduce a new-and-improved Messages experience that will start to combine messages from the same buyer into a single thread. To earn your Star Seller badge you’ll need to respond to initial messages from buyers within 24 hours in fewer threads than before, since you told us it was difficult to stay on top of your messages. Not only will this change make it easier to qualify for Star Seller, it will also make managing all your messages much more streamlined."
Looks like they are combining ALL messages for that buyer, even if you initiate a new one.
Also, sent convos are showing up in the inbox.
I noticed that this morning and mentioned it in the forum, but then wasn't sure if it hadn't been like that all along.
Am glad you noticed it too, as it means I wasn't imagining things.
@BagmakerSupply @leinweberstudio
Have the sent messages in the inbox been combined with earlier message exchanges for the same person?
I went back about half a page and all of these are single thread exchanges, so no combining necessary.
The first messages I see that entailed 2 threads from the same person were in March and April, and these did not get combined.
I wonder though, if I were to converse with her again, would they combine at that time because this combining is coming, as mentioned above.
I don't think I am seeing it yet. Any single convos I initiated that don't have a response are only in Sent. The software might still be rolling out though.
And we all know how they just love to roll out new things before a long weekend!
When I heard about this change, my thought was... This will be an absolute train wreck.
@NoFrogsAllowed
I wouldn't mind betting the new software is what caused the jumping cursor bug.
I don't bet against sure things.
"... it will also make managing all your messages much more streamlined." That may be true for some, perhaps even many, sellers, but in our case this will be the exact opposite. We have many repeat customers where we have multiple special requests or inquiries and them all being lumped into a single thread will make it a nightmare to manage and to make it obvious which matter is being addressed. Plus I suspect it will actually make it easier to miss an incoming message because it will be buried amongst unrelated convos.
@BagmakerSupply No doubt you will not be the only one.
In the organisations I worked for a change like this would have been investigated by an analyst in conjunction with the business & the users, and a set of specifications written for the development team to follow.
Then the software would have been tested by an independent team on a standalone system.
Finally, the users would have been notified of the changes (in detail) in advance of deployment.
But this is Etsy.
Don't like this.
I was just contacted by a previous customer asking a question about a pair of earrings and their previous email came through as well about a necklace order. They mentioned that as they opened the 'message seller' link it automatically resent the old message from months ago.
Confusing to say the least.
UPDATE : If you send a message to a customer from an order using the 'message buyer' button, the message gets attached to some other convo, but DOES NOT show up on the order itself ! So if a customer contacts us about an order they placed, will it show up on that order or just randomly in the in box ?
Whoever approved these changes clearly does not manage a real and active Etsy shop or they would know that these improvements abysmally fail to "make managing all your messages much more streamlined."
