My bank account was changed by Etsy without my authorization and I lost 1750 euros.

My account funds were frozen, and when I contacted the security team, they told me it was related to an update to my bank account, which I didn't make. However, my account settings show my bank account, while another window shows a completely different one. I have no idea how this could have happened. I set my payments to once a month to prevent them from being sent to the wrong address, but Etsy simply took it upon themselves to send 1750 euros into thin air. The support team recommended that I contact my bank to find out when they will return the payment, but this is not my account, and I don't know where to turn. I've been struggling with this for a week now, and I can't figure out how to update my bank account or get my money back.

Etsy didn't change your bank account; it sounds like you were hacked. I would reply again to the original contact stating that you were hacked and that you need help resetting your bank. That's all the advice I can offer.

It's a shame; your art is wonderful.

Your art is absolutely beautiful.  I'm not sure what you can do here, but if any of the payments were made through Paypal, for example, you might try contacting them and see if you have any kind of protection because you believe your account was hacked.

This is so strange to me...as they make us jump through hoops to verify our bank account...don't the hackers have to do this too?  It would seem to me that if a bank account was going to be changed, Etsy should send an email to the shop owner.  If the hacker changed the email, then an email stating the email address has been changed should be sent to the seller from Etsy.

I would also put your shop on vacation while this gets sorted.

@Jewels2at

You are absolutely correct--if I was the OP I would check every account I have logged into recently and using a different device change all of my passwords.  It sounds like they might have a keystroke logger on their  device.

I would immediately put my shop on vacation and I would try Etsy again and tell them you were hacked.

Chances are you might have malware (a keystroke logger) on your computer or device. If that is the case they can pick up every stroke you type. I would take whatever device you are using to a techie and have them clean it for virus and malware. THEN I would go to a DIFFERENT device and change every one of your passwords.  In order to change your bank account they must have your old bank account number so they have picked up your banking information also. This could be worse than just your Etsy shop so I would not log in anywhere until you get this sorted.

I agree with Jewels2at (above); all of the hoops we jump through to verify bank accounts and the hackers get in so easily?  Doesn't make sense.
@XeniaFonkArt  I'm very sorry this has happened to you, and that you've been struggling with this for a week, for crying out loud.  Good advice from everyone.

@FabioMcMustache  The OP has a Hacked Account and has been struggling for a week with this.  Can you please help.  Thank You in advance.

Re: My bank account was changed by Etsy without my authorization and I lost 1750 euros.

it sure is odd. I would hope I would get an email if my bank account updates in my shop...

Many don't get emails from Etsy. Seems to be a technical glitch and Etsy hasn't been interested in fixing it.

if you are in the United States why would it be Euros? is that where the hacker is?

OP has not added a shop location.

Her items are shipped from the US because her production partner, a POD, is located in California.

@XeniaFonkArt

there are two places for financial account information
in - finances - payment settings

the billing section, has card details - this is where etsy charges, if you do a refund, and there is no money in "available to deposit"

the payment settings, has your bank info - this is where payments go

....

if your shop currency is euros, you need an EU bank account, and ID

your shop says usa, and items ship from USA, and you have none of the legal requirements, for an EU shop

so you may have some conflicts there that are causing problems

....

where you set up 2 factor authentication, you can also check if anyone except you has logged on, if they have, you have been hacked.

Change your password,
set up 2 factor authentication,
log out anyone who isn't you
contact etsy to let them know you've been hacked
run virus checking on your devices

contact the police, or whatever the authorites are in your country, to report online fraud
