Just had a message from a customer to tell me that they had placed an order. It's not showing on my dashboard or on my orders. Anyone else having the same problem?
It's possible they have the wrong shop. You could ask what the order number is.
That's a great point on the order number to legitimize what they are saying and to weed out spam.
I would say it's unusual for a Buyer to message you to let you know they just placed an order - unless you've been messaging back and forth previously. I would be highly suspicious, and spam it, if it was just out of the blue.
I would mark as spam.
It is possible that the order is still processing. Sometimes there is a delay between a buyer placing an order and it showing in the shop. If it doesn't show up, it's either a bogus claim (or they have the wrong shop) or the buyer's payment was declined. Scammers have been known to claim they placed an order, and even sent falsified order forms. Just wait to see what happens. It's not an order until it shows in your shop.
The customer asked me to list an item, which I did, then emailed me to say they had placed the order. The item is now showing as sold when they search for it, but when I look it is still active. Etsy support told me to wait 24 hours and then contact them again but now the chat icon is missing!!!
The customer also said that they had received a message from Etsy confirming the order.
It is not an order until it shows in your dashboard and you have received the confirmation email.
There may be a glitch but there is nothing you can or should do until you receive it.
Some sellers have even received statements from customers in the past showing the payment was taken, when in fact it had not so for your and your customers protection make sure you receive confirmation before sending any order out.
