Hi there!
I have a problem that's not a one time thing and it's hurts all of those sellers that give coupon codes to their costumers. I reported it to Etsy and they will pass it on to the products teams but I feel like it may means nothing...
Just today I have 3 customers claiming that my coupon code is not working. I already know what's the problem because they try to apply it at a wrong place: There are two places: "Apply shop coupon codes" at the products in the cart and a much more visible place with blue highlights at the checkout: "Apply Etsy coupon code". They always choose the Etsy coupon code field because it's much more visible and it's at the end of the buying process for them. I always tell them that they must have applied it at a wrong place and they always says: "Oh, you're right, thanks!"
My concern is not just that I have to explain and repeat myself for these costumers over and over again. I think the more problematic thing is that how many costumers or almost costumers had or will have a bad experience thinking that my coupons are not working and I tried to set them up? How many costumers get mad at my shop, and altogether Etsy because they tought that my coupon was a scam and how many of them didn't even finished their order because of the disappointment? I will never know, because I guess there is only a small percentage of them that actually contacted me about it and not just get angry and quit their order placing process or make an order with a bad experience from me and Etsy.
The ideal solution would be if the Etsy coupon code applying field was not there to confuse our costumers, or if it have to stay, then at least it should be at a less important
less visible, less highlighted place or it should be more understandable information about that field because "apply Etsy coupon" is not clear enough for costumers as a lot of them think that they are ordering from Etsy and not from different shops on Etsy.
I got the solution in the meantime from a seller in a social media group so I thought I share it here too. Maybe if someone have the same problem can learn the solution more easily than I did. My coupon code was jut too old for Etsy. It was only five months old but it seems that there was a glitch or something that made these whole situation where my customers can use the code at the "Apply shop coupon field" while can't use it at the "Apply Etsy coupon field". I just had to deactivate the "old" coupon and make a brand new with a different code name (sadly the same name didn't work even if the coupon was new). So that's it.
Easy Solution. Use Etsy Marketing > Sales and Coupons to "Run a Sale" Event. You have 15% Discount for 2 or more in your Shop Announcement
Set up a Sale with 15% discount and Minimum Amount 2. In this way the Discount will automatically populate in the correct field for any Order which qualifies.
I send physical coupons for my buying costumers too, to make them repeated costumers. And I use the 15% off coupons as a cart value increaser. I think for this porpuse it's important that the customer have to apply the code and to not just give them automatically, because it would loose it's purpuse as lots of costumers would get it automatically that would buy 2 or more jewelry anyway. But thanks for the idea, because I can see that it could be a solution if I just wanted to offer the percentage off for anyone who want to buy 2 or more pieces.
I think it would be more benficial for all of the sellers and Etsy if the two applying fields were not so exchangeable.
But ...You have this 15% available to anyone, not just repeat Buyers, according to your Shop Announcement
"Get -15% OFF from your order by purchasing 2 or more MininiLand jewelry and use this Coupon code: SAVE15"
Most of the people who are by defult wanted to buy 2 or more things from me are not using this coupon code, and not just because it's tricky to apply, but also because they don't care about it. They would buy more jewelry from me anyway and don't care about if the price can be lower. Giving them the discount automatically is not beneficial this way because I want to target the people who are seeing the opportunity and make actions to get it. I am sure that it would work the other way too, but it would also mean that I give countless discounts to people who originally wouldn't care about it.
Are you aware that there is an 'automatic" "Thank-You" Discount Coupon which you can set to send to anyone who purchases from you and has opted "in" to receive Etsy emails? Of course, not everyone receives these,
The "Thank-You" Coupon is sent after a Sale, Yes. But so are your "package" Coupons. Sorry, I was just trying to help but I really do not understand your concern/s.
I think I understand what @MininiLand is saying - the difference in the buyer's perception between getting a coupon with their merchandise or getting a coupon before they even see their purchase.
Yess
@BagmakerSupply Thanks. I did not think about this being an International Sale or one that takes a long time to reach the Buyer.
They get the package coupon when they open their recived order after weeks of their purchase which is a much more ideal time to get as they can enjoy their product and see if it's worth buying another from the seller. It's more effective this way in my opinion. But thank you for trying to help! English is not my first language so it may be harder to understand my writing.

I have this problem (I think) The majority of the time my coupon codes don’t work according to the customer. And I don’t know what’s going on so thank you for posting this. I never would’ve thought of this myself I appreciate
