I got a new message a few hours ago, but it was a message that I had sent to a buyer thanking them for the order and estimated shipping time. And the message I originally sent was on the 14th, not today. I am going to get dinged on star seller for not replying to this message, I feel if I reply to the message it won't make sense to the buyer. Has this happened to anyone else? I've been having some really strange things happen lately and doesn't seem that Etsy is there to help at all.
Today is the 2nd day that I receive notice that I have multiple messages and when I look, it is just from a sale I had where I sent a message to the buyer confirming their item has shipped.
Come on Etsy, fix this!
Yep. Me too.
Same here
Came here searching for a related thread since this just happened to me! Chronic unprofessional IT problems with Etsy. I was afraid it would count against my Star Seller, so I checked in with the customer to make sure their order was ok.
Also noted some other threads by users with the same issue:

Same!
me too, second one today and it' appears to be the buyer sending me what I messaged them, so odd. I just put my auto reply on as to not get dung for not replying. I replied to the first one and felt silly.
"appears to be the buyer sending me what I messaged them,"
yes, just got similar
Same. Multiple messages in my inbox yesterday and today showing as new messages FROM customers that I sent sent thank you/shipping notices TO. There is no reply from the customer or new activity since my message. I reported via chat and they are escalating. It won't affect star seller as I sent the first message, and the phantom message is a reply to me. All of mine are from April 10/11 and these packages have all been delivered.
message glitches here too
the same here - 3 messages few minutes ago
I have just had a rash of these this afternoon, really bad form Etsy.
ETA: I don't know if the buyers are getting these messages for the first time or if they are getting duplicates, but one customer did reach out straight after this happened to say she'd received her order (my message was sent 2 days ago). So it's not just that they are showing as "unread" on the seller end. I would contact support but it's an ordeal every time and I don't have the capacity for that kind of stress today.
Hi all, I contacted support. It seems to be an update issue that they are aware of and working on. Same thing is / was happening to me as well.
thank you for taking one for the team!
Same here.
It happened to me too! Just hoping if I don't respond to my own "returned message", that my Star Seller status doesn't get docked for not responding within 24 hours!
was thinking the same thing!
Me too - thanks for sharing, @LGreenwaltJewelry - at least we know somebody is aware of the issue!
Just received one now, a message I sent to my customer on the 7th of April (today is the 26th) and it says it was sent from my customer (not from me to her) and it says it's a new message to be replied to, replying makes me look incompetent... something wrong with etsy all the time.
me too so annoying!
Yes same here. I didn’t realise lots of people are experiencing the same thing
To each and everyone that sent messages to buyers telling them that their order is on the way.
STOP! Etsy sends them THAT message so we don't have to. It's double messaging and so unnecessary.
You run your shop the way you like. I send these messages to establish good communication with my customers. No one complains. Many like it. I have a lot of return customers. I dislike other sellers telling me what to do, as if their way is the only way.
I noticed a weird message glitch a day ago ... I responded to a question and at the bottom of my response was a line that I did not type. It was Thank you for your purchase'. The person just asked a question, and I answered their question. I was embarrassed when I saw that extra line. Luckily the person responded 'thank you' so hopefully they ignored the last line.
I'm going to be super careful when responding to messages to make sure that it's only my text in the message.
Came here to say the same thing! I'm getting a ton of "unread" messages in my inbox, and they are all just where we sent order confirmation/thank you messages out...with no replies from the customer. Going to be a pain trying to weed through to find the actual messages with customer responses.
