Remember to stay vigilant! REAL messages from etsy will be in the "from etsy" section of your inbox. You need to check on a browser or a computer (not the app). NEVER go off etsy and divulge any financial info.
When etsy needs financial or ID info from you, it will be on your dashboard—they don't communicate via messages or email for that.
I‘m sorry this happened to you. I hope that Etsy is working hard on plugging the various security gaps, because there are quite a few things they could do to make it safer here.
Beware!! You will be receiving many messages from accounts claiming that they are 'Etsy Staff' or 'Etsy Support' telling you to send them your e-mail address because your account has been suspended. Your account is not suspended and Etsy already has all your information.
These are all SCAMS! They target shops, especially the new ones, like yours and mine. They count on our lack of knowledge on Etsy as sellers. Don't give your e-mail address or any bank Information to anyone. Also please don't click on any link sent to you!
I'm very sorry to read that you got scammed.
Etsy built in several steps to identify scammers, like:
1. a genuine Etsy message has to appear in the "from Etsy" folder,
2. Etsy will never ask you for your email or credit card info, they already have it. The scammers don't have it.
3. Here is an Etsy article to learn more.https://help.etsy.com/hc/de/search/click?data=BAh7DjoHaWRsKwhYTLHRUwA6D2FjY291bnRfaWRpA1zEHjoJdHlwZU...
We all hope Etsy will implement a warning in a prominent space in our dashboards.
