Hello Etsy fam
My shop yesterday had multiple listings with the sign "added to basket". My best seller had "20+ added", and 4 more listings had over 10 added to basket. Thats a total of 60+ added to basket. This was helping greatly to achieve sales more than usual.
In matter of minutes they instantly all disappeared and now it seems like no-one is interested on those items.
I know after 30 days Etsy moves it to "save for later" section. But that's not the case here cause that should mean that all 60 potential buyers added the listings on the basket simultaneously 30 days ago. That's not possible.
I've contacted Etsy support and they dont really know why this happened.
I've contacted some friends that have shops on Etsy and they never had a similar experience, their "added to basket" never disappeared all together in a few minutes.
It's the 2nd time this is happening on my shop. Tbh its very a bit discouraging not getting a specific answer on why this is happening so I can avoid to experience it again and again.
- Its not the 30 days period moving to "save for later" (that would apply if all 60+ added all items in a few minutes 30 days ago -not possible)
- I didn't renewed my stock (that could trigger them to disappear)
- I didn't change anything on my shop (except added a few translation on some listing)
Anyone has any answers on why this is happening?
Its a technical issue on my shop? Its a technical issue of Etsy? Is Etsy removing them in random? Anyone from the technical team of Etsy can give me an answer?
Thank you
Exactly. There is very little actual advantage to having items in carts.
It's pointless fixating on something you have no control over and that has very little effect on actual sales.
The other thing I've noticed that is odd is when an item sells. For example, the item is in let's say 3 people's carts when it sells. But when you view the item on your sold items page, the number of carts is often higher. Sometimes much higher. My guess is that the higher number may include the ones that have been moved to Saved for Later.
When I sell something that people have in their cart my cart total almost always goes up by one. I figure that it goes up by one because the person put it in their cart to purchase and Etsy stopped programming before they got to the point of removing it from the cart because the person bought it, so it stays and gets moved to saved for later.
@NoFrogsAllowed Yes, that definitely makes sense for why the number would go up by one. But I have seen the number go up by many more than one.
Mine has always just gone up by one.
There are too many things that aren't finished, broken or just plain done wrong to say definitively what is going on.
You are running sale , even if some of your items are still in somebody’s cart you can not see it , to see it end the sale
And yes , Etsy move items from carts to save for later section .It happens in my shop all the time
This happened to our shop in October of last year. I noticed all of ours cleared as well. Even ones that were there only a day or two. It was how our sudden slowdown in sales presented itself here on etsy. I've heard others experience it as well. I have speculated if it was some kind of "reset" etsy is doing, but it is only speculation. However, our sales on other venues had only gone up.
They emptied the carts. Yesterday, I had 150 items in carts and today I have 22.
When Etsy puts the items in "save for later" they no longer show up as in a cart under your listings. The strange thing about when they empty the carts is, the items that showed "over 20" ALWAYS go to zero while some other items still show a few items in carts. I think there is a glitch in the "over 20" listings.
I wouldnt worry about it. Having items in carts does not give your shop or listings any advantage and is no guarantee of a sale. It does not affect search ranking or quality score. As others have said, it's a marketing gimmik designed to nudge the customer into making that purchase.
Likewise I pay no attention to favourites. A sale is only a sale when the transaction is complete.
whatever the reason for for the 'disappearance' is, the point is - from the seller point of view - not only is this bit of statistics pointless, it can also be extremely misleading. The best thing to do is to ignore it completely. Most seasoned sellers do. It is more of a 'convincing strategy' for the buyers rather than anything useful for sellers.
I feel your pain! Yesterday I had 3 listings that had over 33 baskets collectively and I wake up today and all have been wiped! They are less than 2 weeks published so it’s not anything to do with 30 days blah! Tried looking on different devices - all the same! Yet I have other listings that have their basket numbers remaining and these listings were added at the same time! I am gutted! I asked for support - she was lovely but still couldn’t give me any advice or facts about why this has happened! I even had friends test the item - they put in their basket and it didn’t even land in their basket and is not showing up on my page! I’m a new seller in this space and already I’m questioning the competency of the technical systems in place. Very frustrating and worrisome…
I think you will live a more peaceful life if you keep in mind that the "in basket" feature is for entertainment purposes only. People could be saving it in a basket because they're thinking of copying it. Or showing it to their grandmother.
It's not something to be trusted for making biz decisions, especially when you consider that what you see changes whether you're signed in or not. That alone should be a clue.
@leinweberstudio yep, just because something is popular with browsing shoppers doesn't mean it will sell. I have a painting that has far more favorites than any other listing I've ever done, gets more views than any of my other listings by far, and also has been in someone's "cart" more times than I can count yet it remains unsold for nearly two years. The same painting has more views and watchers than most of my listings on Ebay as well.
you are right, I thought the same too. it is to get buyers to buy.
This is also happening to me. It´s so frustrating.
