Losing everything you've just typed in the act of selecting it to copy for the next round.

You lose all of your typed alt-text if you move outside the dialog when selecting it to copy and paste.

I just found out about the alt-text system for listing images, and am starting the long process of adding text to all of them. I love that we can now do this. However, there's a really frustrating problem with it which makes it intermittently awful.

When you click the edit icon on an image, you get a dialog you can type in. Since most of my items have multiple views, I want to copy and paste the text from one image to the next, and only edit details, to avoid retyping everything four or five times. This works fine, except if you're in a hurry or getting into a flow, and you are moving too fast. Normally when typing in a text box, when you begin a a selection, and swipe your mouse up to select the whole text, you can swipe sloppily outside the opposite corner of the text box and select it all. This is expected behavior everywhere in browsers. But if you swipe too far in this particular dialog, and go just beyond the edge of the dialog, the entire dialog disappears, and you lose the text you just typed and were selecting in order to copy and thereby save.

It's a subtle issue, presumably to do with the JQuery(?) library being used to create those dialogs, but it is extremely frustrating, since it destroys the information exactly when you are trying to save it, and is more likely to happen when you are trying to move quickly. Since it is different behavior than almost everywhere else, ordinary habits lead you into this trap.

Edit to add: This is on up-to-date Firefox on Windows 10.

I’m assuming you’re on a computer. Instead of swiping with the mouse to select the text, can you right click and select all? You can also right click to copy and paste.

Yes, I noticed this for alt text on pictures. It is very easy to do, and horribly annoying.

I have problems with my "mouse hand", which sometimes jerks a bit, or doesn't respond quite as fast as I would like.  I am VERY easy to beat at computer games now.

So I am going "outside the box" regularly.

My innocent little guinea pig now knows many new swear words.
