Listings translated

All of a sudden some of our listings are translated in Dutch, while we always make our listings in English. We have enabled and disabled the translation settings to see if it made any difference, but it still stays the same.

We want our listings to appear in English, but somehow some are translated. Anyone have the same problem?

Also, through another browser, not logged in, everything is in Dutch!

Is Etsy changing something with translations?

Re: Listings translated

Logged in:

The language you see depends on your user settings.

Scroll to the bottom line of a listing or search page and you will see region (country), language and currency. Click on them to change.

If you are using one of the Etsy Apps with different user settings it can override your browser user settings.

Logged out:

The region / language / currency settings are set for each browser, and saved in browser cookies.

If the cookies are deleted (eg. security software settings, manual deletion, private / incognito browsing) then Etsy will default to either the device's region settings, or to region settings appropriate for the IP address you are using.

Re: Listings translated

Your listings are displaying in English when I change my user language setting to Nederlands.

What is your default shop language?

Is it English?

It is important not to enter text in the wrong language as that will upset the translation software.

Re: Listings translated

Thank you, our default language is English, we always use English and have never done otherwise. The strange thing is it only happened to a couple of listings....

Re: Listings translated

@Minouc

Just to be sure that Etsy have not changed anything, check:

Go to the shop dashboard > settings > languages & translations > "start translating your shop button" > "Manage shop languages" popup

English should be at the top of the list, marked as "default" and have no selection switch next to it.

Is the Dutch selection on or off?

Re: Listings translated

I had an interesting situation with this earlier this month.  Someone in the Netherlands found one of my digital items via Google search.  He bought the item, then wrote to me that he couldn't download the item, even though my side showed it had been downloaded.  I politely wrote to him, thanked him for his order, and suggested he check his spam or junk folders.  I received another two messages from him indicating he was very upset, wanted his digital file in Dutch, and he would keep writing to me until he got it.  All of his mails were coming to me in the middle of the night.  I happened to see his messages, got up, and wrote a message back to him saying there was obviously a misunderstanding and fully refunded his order.  I felt sorry for him in a way, but was not happy that he was so upset.  I know what happened.  He saw my listing in Dutch vig Google Search Netherlands, even though I wrote it in English.  He reasonably ordered the item and expected it to be in Dutch.  Before I went back to bed that night, I edited my digital file listings to read:  "This pattern/drawing is available only in the English language."  I hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation.

The description is in Dutch too.

Dot.: Listings translated

Did you make any changes to these listings recently and have you saved them in the APP on your mobile device? If so, this may be a reason. The mobile device, e.g. phone, has its default language set (what is yours?). If you use the seller's app on a mobile device, its default language must be the same as your store - english. It concern only using app.
If not, the app will open in the device language and save all changes in the device language.
The language can only be set by opening the shop page in the browser even on mobile.
My experience was:
I have the default language in my etsy shop - English, and a second additional Polish. I have listings written by me in two languages. When I tried to save changes to auctions in the app on my phone, the effect was that I had two Polish versions. The default language of my phone was Polish.
I explained this with etsy support, but the solution was -if you use the app - change device language to the same language of the shop, or to make all changes in listings in the browser in the selected language.
I don't know if I explained it well.
