Listing Expirations

Jump to solution

I had hundreds of my listings expire on the same day.  Actually it was like 1400 .  How can this even happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@PiecesBoutique  Not sure. So did you re-list them all?

Most of them.  I was on vacation.  I don't like auto relist because I don't relist off season items or items I want to redo and revise.

Were they listed or renewed on the same day previously? This would be one reason why, the other is that Etsy has deactivated them for some reason and if that is the case, Etsy would have sent you an email to state why.

@PiecesBoutique  - FWIW I see a total of 1240 listings in your shop.

You're saying that hundreds of listings suddenly expired in your shop.

Were any of the listings automatically renewed? Did Etsy charge for the renewal?
Or did they all suddenly go "Expired" & that's where they now sit?

There has been a reported glitch where listings that should have expired did not. The listings remained in the shops & appeared in search results.
However, a shop going into vacation mode or suddenly deciding to edit one of these listings triggered the old expiration date. The shops then had to pay the relisting fee.

Other times, Etsy suddenly became aware of the glitch. They would go in & renew all the listing in one fell swoop. Shops would end up with a lot of listings suddenly having the same expiration date. Often they were not only charged for the sudden renewal but were also charged for the months that the item was listed & appearing in search, even though it should have expired.

Hi.  Yes I did set my shop to vacation mode and that's when it happened.  I renewed most of then while I was vacationing in my motorhome.  I too notice over the past year that some listings never expired.  I realize that I am obligated to pay to renew, but all in one fell swoop is a lot.  My shop was down to only 450 approx, Listings available one day after I put it in vacation mode.

As @JMOldeVintage  says "There has been a reported glitch where listings that should have expired did not."  I am sort of betting this is what happened. I noticed just recently that this has happened with ONE of my listings that should have expired near the beginning of March, this year. I decided to just "let it ride" until it either sells or Etsy realizes there is a glitch. I  am curious just to see if they charge for all the interveining relists  and feel it would not be "too much" since is only one listing.

I don't see how they can charge you for it.

If I don't renew something it's because I don't want it renewed.

Etsy refusing to allow someone to let a listing expire is Etsy not doing their job properly.
And not something that they should charge a fee for.

@OneEyeCatStudio

JMPO--I don't think they should charge either--but I have seen where they did this in the past to sellers in the same scenario.

However--this is sort of an experiment on my part.

Oh, you're right. I wouldn't put it past them.

Thank you everyone for your responses.  I am assuming it was the glitch some are talking about and when I put my shop on vacation mode it triggered something.    I don't like vacation mode because usually when I get back the sales take forever to gain momentum.  Luckily this time that was not the case.   But to go from 1700 listings to 400 freaked me out.  I still have a lot to renew but Your right, I do not want all my listings expiring on the same day.  I never thought of that.   What is the best way to contact Etsy.  I can never seem to figure that out.  They make it hard to get a hold of them.

same thing is happening to me, lots of listings expiring on the same date. The listings were not all created at once like that. Plus, they are all on auto-renew so why would they not renew already?
