Once an item has been put in more than 20 carts, it no longer shows on the listing as being in any cart. Can this be fixed? I know the charm listed below is in more than 20 carts. Thanks!

May I ask how you know this?
This listing is one of my best sellers and it's always in a lot of carts. Yesterday it was in 19 carts and today it said it wasn't in any carts.
This has happened numerous times so I thought I would bring it up to see if it's a glitch. If it's being moved to "Saved for later" that's not a big problem, but if it's disappearing that could result in a lot of lost sales.
After a while they delete it and start over. It happens all the time to my listings. It says 20 people have this in their cart for a while and then they refresh the listing I think and it starts over.
it is in one persons cart
click on the listing and it says
Only 1 left, and 1 person has it in their cart.
Thanks for replying. I went to my other store and put it in my cart just to see what would happen.
Nonpurchased items are not left in a buyer's cart indefinitely. After some time (30 days) they are moved (by Etsy) to the 'Saved for Later' section.
Thanks for replying. This is not the same thing. I know when Etsy dumps the carts...the carts for all of my items are a lot less, but this is the only listing that was showing less items in the cart today.
Etsy clears the carts approximately every 30 days and puts the carted items into saved for later. It usually doesn't show in your shop until it is in 3 people's carts and it usually maxes out at showing it's in 20 people's carts.
When it maxes out at 20, do you know if it is moved to "saved for later"?
Etsy doesn't move them until approximately a month. They don't stop adding at 20, they just usually quit showing at 20. I've had a couple that have shown over 20.
@NoFrogsAllowed @DoozleDesigns Thank you for this! I'm late to this conversation but this recently occured for me and i'm a fairly new seller so I appreciate this response!
@DoozleDesigns : I don't think that the "in people's carts" number is guaranteed to be accurate or even inclusive. You might have 25 other items where just as many people have it in their cart but Etsy has not put the badge on those listings. It certainly is not intended for use by sellers - it is a marketing ploy aimed at buyers to create an aura of urgency and scarcity.
The cart number may not be accurate, but my sales seem to follow it pretty closely so I use it for ordering supplies...maybe the ploy is working.
I've had ones that say "over 20 people have this in their cart", but they all get dumped eventually, and not necessarily on the same schedule as other things in your shop. It's been like this for years.
This ^^.
Etsy doesn't clear every buyer's cart on the same exact day once a month. It's determined by when each buyer first put it in their cart. For example, Buyer A puts an item in their cart on July 27 and the system moves it to 'save' on or about August 27. Buyer B puts the same item in their cart on August 4 and it will move to save around Sept. 4.
I've had it say "over 20..." a lot, but generally in a day or 2 it's back to zero.
What @BagmakerSupply says is spot on .... it's a buyer signal.
It doesn't mean anything for sellers, although sellers like to think it does.
The number showing as "in cart" is not accurate or up to date, and does not appear for every item that is being held in someone's cart. It's always been that way.
It most likely stops showing altogether at 20 items because that's the max number Etsy has currently decided attracts buyers. Any more than that & buyers probably would think there is a problem with the item because it isn't actually selling. There is a threshold at which buyer signals start working in reverse - Etsy decides on this limit from click data analysis.
None of the buyer signals Etsy uses are random - they are all intentionally designed to increase sales for the site (not for the individual seller).
Quite likely the item you mention is still in more than 20 people's carts - or in none - or in 1. Doesn't mean anything in terms of your actual sell-through rate - and it doesn't mean your item is no longer visible in searches.
