Is this a scam?

Jump to solution

Hi!

I think this is a scam but I want to make sure since I don't want to ignore someone.
I received an email from a "buyer", asking for tracking details concerning their order.
The thing is, I haven't received orders this month, and I've sent every order I had before. My last customer was French, and the email is in English. I asked for their name, the order number and the items they bought, but they only responded with "I placed an order with you for "the name of my shop. Here's my order:" and then provided a link. I, of course, did not click on said link.

So, am I paranoid, or am I right to think this is a scam?

Thank you

Most likely yes. Ask them to provide the transaction number and explain that without it, you cannot do anything. If they are having problems, they should contact etsy directly.

A link to their order would only work if you were logged in to their account. Ask for a screenshot or order # and date of order. (just in case it is a genuine request)

Don't click on links in messages or direct emails. Many turn out to be scams. As others have suggested, you just need the order number (I wouldn't ask for an image/screenshot either as those can contain viruses). If they can't give you the order number then report the message as spam or put it in your junk mail folder (depending on whether it's an Etsy message or direct email).
