I made one small mistake in my info, and Etsy forced my shop into vacation mode for a week

Hi everyone,

Last week, I tried to update my account details for tax purposes. Since I recently registered a company (which I fully own), I wanted to make sure everything was correct. To avoid errors, I contacted an Etsy support agent via live chat, shared screenshots of my documents, and asked for guidance on each field.

Following the agent's instructions, I entered my legal name in the "Business Name" field—but as soon as I submitted, my shop was immediately placed on forced vacation mode. I quickly corrected the info and resubmitted, but my shop remained suspended. To make things worse, the live chat window disappeared, and I couldn’t reach any Etsy support.

Since then, my shop has been stuck in vacation mode. The dashboard says, "We’re reviewing your information—this usually takes no longer than 48 hours," but it’s been 5 days with zero updates.

I submitted a support ticket the same day but haven’t received any response. I also posted here in the Seller Forum earlier, but nothing has changed.

Does anyone know another way to contact Etsy about this? It feels extreme to punish my shop for what was essentially one wrong entry—especially when I followed an agent’s advice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All you can do is wait. There are loads of threads about long wait times. I'm not saying it's not bad, but it's a reality.

From etsy's perspective, I'm guessing that when someone goes to change some long-standing information and makes an error, it looks suspiciously like the shop may have been hacked.

A mistake is a mistake whether big or small.  Verification is outsourced so Etsy can't hurry it along themselves.  

You can amend the information yourself so that it is correct by going to:

Shop Manager - Finances - Legal & Tax Information - Edit - make the necessary changes to info you have there - Submit

I have heard horror stories from people merely trying to change their marital status/name. This is why I am delaying updating my tax info. When I opened 2 of my shops 16 years ago on the owner line I put "Jane and Bob Doe" and my SS on the SS line. It didn't say This name will go on your 1099K it just said owner. So now I have to change it per my accountant.
