I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Hello, As per title: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account. Every time they reject my document there's a different reason. This time is that I need to provide a document that is not redacted but guess what? I did redact only the transactions and the total amount I have on my bank account. I live in Switzerland, so my bank statement is in German. I tried everything, help requests fell in the void. I'm tired and frustrated. This forum is my last resort. I hope someone can help.

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Could you submit the year-end certification document from your bank that’s filed with your taxes instead of a regular statement? Yes, it shows how much was in your account at year end, but at least no transaction info.

You could also send them a second copy of the exact same document, with English translations for key words, if you sense that the German may be the issue.

Good luck with this.

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Unfortunately, we don't have such a statement in Switzerland. I sent the Extract of my bank account for March redacting the expenses etc. without redacting any useful info but it didn't work. I think it might be all AI and it doesn't understand.

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

never heard of a year end certificate/document from my bank, must be a USA thing.

.....

If etsy says they want one unredacted, give them one unredacted

If you've edited out one thing, you could have changed another

give them the straight copy of the statement, with no changes

Well, yes, I could. But goodbye privacy. It’s not fair.

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Sorry, I’m a little confused?

It’s been my experience ( in the EU) you enter bank details….( this can be VERY confusing as I had to add my first & last name to the “first name box” so it would appear as it does to on my bank account here in Germany.

After your first sale, they deposit a small amount in your bank and you tell them what the amount was….then your linked.

But your having to show actual documents from your bank?

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Yes, they want a bank statement to confirm the info you’re writing are true. It’s for money laundering laws/regulations.

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

I know it’s seems unfair but Etsy has to abide by EU privacy laws as well so I wouldn’t be overly worried about it. I realize that easier said than done.

unfortunately, we have to follow the rules. Don’t feel alone, even us seasoned sellers opening additional shops have to go through their process. Which is not as easy as the first shop. Getting pass the first few sales is always the rough patch.

Soon this will all be behind you and you can just focus on building your shop and sales.

it will be just fine.

Best!

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

*update* they suspended my account because they were not able to verify my bank account and I reached the maximum number of attempts. Please now don’t tell me this is not an automated process and the automation in question is not able to extrapolate the useful info from the documents I sent.

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Hello,
I am sorry to hear all these stories, I just wanted to share mine in case it helps someone (and I really hope Etsy undo the suspension of your shop soon @FrancescaWatercolour  .

1. I am a Chilean citizen living in Australia. When I tried to verify my account I never got the deposit (like the 3 times I tried). The bank account I was using is one that I opened as a secondary for my business (so I did not open it in person, but from the app in my phone). My name in my bank account is: Firstname Middlename Lastname. My name in Etsy was: Firstname Lastname. The name of the bank is known in Australia by Commonwealth, so I wrote it like that.

2. After several attempts of trying to verify I open a case and days later received an email asking for a bank statement. I uploaded de bank statement. They could not verify my account with it.

3. Because I thought that my name was the problem, I updated my name to: Firstname Middlename (in the first name box) Lastname (in the last name box). I uploaded my passport, and they could not verify my name.

4. I decided to update my bank details again and I wrote the full name of the bank according to the bank statement, so: Commonwealth Bank of Australia. They verified my bank account (so my name was not the problem but the bank's name).

5. Because my name was not verify they could not transfer the funds yet. I got an email saying that they could not verify my name. I uploaded marriage certificate from Australia (in which an address from another place I lived was stated) and ID card from Chile, and for some reason they could not verify my name.

6. I received another message asking for a bill with my full name, which I did not have. They also wanted me to clarify where I was located because they could not find where I was physically. I replied to that email saying that I wanted to cancel the change of my name because all the issues and that I still wanted explanations about why they could not verify my name. I also clarified where I was living, where I was from, etc. I attached all the documents with my name and address to this email, including an electricity bill (which did not have my full name, just part of it, but just in case). They verified my full name.

7. So far, all good. I received a message saying that the funds were on my way. But 2 days later I received an email saying that they could not do the deposit and that I should update my bank details.

8. I updated my bank account details to the bank account that I opened in person. They verified the account, and 5 days later they did the deposit in my bank account!

What I have learnt:

1. Everything needs to match perfectly, apparently including addresses! I updated all the places where they asked for my address so they would be exactly the same.

2. In a conversation with another seller, this person found that Etsy has their own system to do the deposits and that it may have outdated databases of bank account numbers (in case of Australia the BSBs). In my case worked the second time maybe because they did not have the BSB for an account I opened online, but they have the one that I opened in person years ago. For this other seller worked opening a new bank account. This also relates to an experience my partner had with Paypal, they could not transfer funds to our bank, but to another one he opened online.

Anyways, all the best to everyone! Hope everyone succeed in their business and manage to solve the issue with verification and deposits.

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Thank you @Coloresfactory for sharing your experience! It's very helpful!
At the moment I'm waiting on Etsy support to unlock my payment settings as I reached the max attempts to verify my bank account! Unfortunately, the support is extremely slow and I'm in this situation since more than 2 weeks now. Hopefully it will get resolved soon.

@Coloresfactory

This is WRONG

Etsy uses 3rd partly payment processors, they do NOT do the verification themselves, or the deposits

some banks hide the real numbers -  using a virtual account number VACs or tokenized account number TANs  - have you checked if this is what your bank does with business numbers?

also, PO boxes are not allowed on bank accounts on etsy - which Australia allows

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Yeah, that’s what I meant. Etsy payments are in charge of the deposits and they use third party payment processors like Worldpay or Ayden. You’re right they are verifying the bank account, and not Etsy itself.
I guess my point was that the bank account is not the issue, but the system they use for payments and their databases. Apparently this can be solved by trying with another bank account, ideally one that is opened in person.

I don’t know about the PO box, my bank account has nothing to do with it as I don’t have one.
All the best

Re: I can't seem to be able to verify my bank account

Etsy uses very big, international payment processors

If a different bank account works, it's not etsy or the payment processors,

its what the bank is doing
