Not very nice of them to do this without inquiring if any of us will be effected by this change,
or even notifying in advance.
Personally I don't have the time or patience to fix over 1000 main images in my shop!
I'm hoping Tech Support or who ever in in charge of this numbskull decision will fix it!
Agree! I have near 800 listings. Ticked off to say the least.
I have over 1000 listings that will need changing and numerous templates that I have been working with for over 4 years now that would need revising.
I'm hoping shops will call in and express how much this is unacceptable.
Very frustrating!!!
@TreehouseCustoms I think even squared your photos are very nice, Well done.
The cropping is not much on the shop page.
I find mine to be okay as well, Sure a bit taken off.
As a buyer frankly square photos didn't mean much to me so I don't know where Etsy gets that idea. But they are not a deterrent from me looking at a listing if I feel it is what I want.
@DKVintageandBeyond Your photos are fine too.
@LorettasCottage Yours look great to me. The little bit chopped off is not a deterrent to your item.

Furthermore, if changes are being made ,there needs to be a tool that will adjust ALL of our existing photos, so that new photos aren't necessary.
This is such a disaster!! What's the point of having rectangular images everywhere on Etsy except on our storefronts? Make it make sense.

Why weren't the people who pay their salaries queried about what sort of effect this would have on US?
GOOD NEWS... NOT!!!
Hi everyone,
We wanted to let you know that we recently ran an experiment with buyers to test different listing image sizes and ratios to see which ones performed best. Experiments like these help us better understand buyer behavior so we can pass this information along to you to help you make more sales. Good news! We've learned that buyers are more likely to make a purchase when a shop displays square photos*.
So starting in early August, listing images in your Shop Home will display in a square format, matching the photo format across other areas of the site, like market pages. No immediate action is required, however, you may want to start taking and uploading images with this format in mind.
Why wasn't this sent out as an email??

@TreehouseCustoms I have a couple of times! I have near 800 listings not happy.
It is so frustrating and weird to look at now. To me, it is like Etsy went to repave our roads, and in the process they grinded down the sidewalks and trees also.
This really has me upset. I've spent months carefully going through my Shop and updating all my 1000+ listings. With sales being down (for pretty much much everyone!) I thought maybe sprucing up listing photos would help. Now they've changed the format and I'll have to redo all of them. What a waste of time.....
