I was just reviewing my listings a moment ago and happened to notice that my handmade items and now showing as "designed by". All my items are handmade, and I've noticed that the majority (not all, but most) are now showing as designed by. These are all listings that have been there for a while, my most recent listing was a few weeks ago. 1. I wonder how long they have been showing in the wrong category. 2. I tried changing it back, by going into edit, going to Core Details and changing it back, but it's not "sticking". Anyone else having this issue? Any solutions?
It's Monday evening, I'm tired after a long day at my day job and didn't plan on having to change all my listings tonight, so I'm a little annoyed.
The logical explanation that I can think of is ....
Etsy has found that, try as they may, they are unable to adequately police the site.
Becasue of this, much of the goods sold here are purchased on sites like Temu, Shein, Aliexpess, etc. and resold here as "handmade" at huge markups.
Since they are unable to remove the fake handmade, their other option is to remove some of the "handmadiness" from the actual handmade so they don't look like such liars about what is sold on their site.
@RamblinRoseSoaps I just checked mine and they still say "made by" and it better stay that way! It's bad enough that they have changed my handmade supplies to "picked by". It would really be wonderful for etsy to hire someone who knows what they're doing and stop ruining our shops with things like this that are completely wrong!
Agree!
This has been an issue for the last few weeks. The bots review your entire listing and make the decision as to how it falls into their ranking. All of my clay items are made by me (wet mud through the final kiln fire). However, regardless of my core entered listing attributes, Etsy now says, some are made by me, then for no reason at all, others are handpicked by me. To say the least, it is very frustrating.
Frustrating is an understatement. I have decided not to fool with it tonight, and wait until Wednesday which is my day off. At least then I can tackle it when I'm fresh and not so tired. It's not going to hurt them to stay as they are for a couple of days. Who knows, maybe the bots will have a change of heart and change them all back?
I am in this same exact boat...I make polymer clay diamond painting pens and magnets and other things and yup got slapped with the handpicked...Yeah no...
Maybe this is a crazy thought, but if you test a listing and add 'made to order' would that change the bot's opinion?
i will look into that when I have time to tinker around with it. I already have one made to order listing that is currently showing as designed by. Ay, yi, yi!
All my handwritten tutorials now say 'handpicked'. ugh ugh ugh. I don't even know how to pick this apart.
I went into the listing and opened up core details. The listing was showing as made by me, but looking down the list of how the item is made my selections of "It's made from scratch was unmarked. and What tools are used should be marked with Handheld or hand guided tools and it was not.
Same, all of my sewing patterns that I have personally made now say 'handpicked,' I have rolled with all the changes so far, but this is absolutely not on.
My patterns are not handpicked by anyone, they are made by me!
@RamblinRoseSoaps :
Where does it say "designed by" ? Love your shop! All my products are handmade too, so hopefully this hasn't changed.
*I just spent 3 hours going through my listings one-by-one. There are only 27, but some of them were on auto-renew vs. manual. This included active listings that I deactivated myself because they were sold at recent craft fair venues. Unfortunately for me, they were set to renewed automatically which cost me $0.20 for each listing. Had to edit these listings to "manual" renew AND fix my listing titles back to the way I want them. AI doesn't sew, so it doesn't know what Handcrafted and Handmade mean. AI doesn't understand the Hawaiian language..
When you are looking at your shop (not listings, the actual shop) and click on the listing, Under Highlights it should say "handmade by....." Instead it is saying "designed by". To fix it, I went into my listings section and then scrolled down to core details, where it shows Physical Item. I clicked on the change button and it will then open up the core details section. scroll down a bit and it should show "How does your shop produce this item?" You can check one of the selections that fits how you make the item. Then below that is "What Tools Are Used To Make This Item?" and you select the option that fits. Then you click on the apply button. And then Publish Changes. Except it's not working. Ugh.
@RamblinRoseSoaps :
Thank you for your explanation. Just checked all 27 listings and they all say: Made by Maliakei Bags, not Handmade . . .
I'm ok with that.
When creating a new listing, I always copy it from a similar listing. This way it's easier for me to edit. From now on, I'll be extra careful and go slow to be sure there are no more surprises, eg. auto-renewal vs manual renewal.
Thanks so much for your help!
Out of 19 listings in my Shop, 8 do not say "Made By" (I don't know if they initially said it). There seems to be no rhyme nor reason; all of my items should say Made By.
ETA: I should add, when one sells, I Renew Sold and put up another of the same item, including a new photo (Customer gets the exact item shown). But it's weird that some of my items say Made By, while others (a little more than half) do not.
Same. I don't understand it.
Same. When I went in to core details, to add to them, in a couple listings, published again, listing now has neither label.
All my custom and original paintings now say Designed By, whereas they used to be Made By. I have no idea what caused the change, but I know other sellers have been dealing with this for some time with no resolution from Etsy.
Yup. All my stuff is handmade.. now saying designed by…totally fuzzed up…
investigated a little… checked a few… all had the correct details, made to order by me…
but… in settings…
I found the system had added a production partner for me… factory, London….wasnt linkedto my listings….
But having it there has obviously thrown the settings out of key… I don’t use a production partner everything is designed cut and stitched by me…make my own patterns… heck sometimes I even dye all the components to get the colours I want.. I’ve got 5 industrial machines.. I don’t need a factory to produce goods…
I think it may be because I used to have one item, a faux leather cuff bracelet and a glass ornament that I had to have printed, in my shop, and had a Production Partner listed. They are no longer an available listing in my shop, so I deleted the Production Partner and unlinked my shop to the print provider's site. But, not sure that is the reason all my listings now are labelled as Designed By. I'll see if that changes.
Does Anyone have a HANDMADE BY label in the listing on their handmade from scratch listings?
I see the newest listings I have, have no label (I did originally complete the core details for them), so possibly the older listings all say Designed By because I once had a production partner listed in my shop settings.
@asimpleknead
Interesting. I had set up one item with a production partner when Etsy made all the changes a year or so ago. I set it up and then realized that I misunderstood the instructions and I didn't need a production partner and deleted the production partner AND that particular item is no longer a listing. Hmmm.
I have a feeling it is due to having production partners set up in a shop. My POD shop does have several, as I work with them to produce the final items with my artwork on them.
However, I guess that something the developers did recently in new coding maintenance, for some reason, it has then made Designed By show up on older listings where a shop had a Production Partner set up in their settings at any point.
I hope this gets corrected. Listing new items, it shows No label, no handmade by label, yet I see that label on a few shops' listings I looked at purposely this morning, so not sure why on my new listings, it shows nada.
That may be what it is? They are now basing all listings on a shop level rather than an item level? I sell prints that use a production partner so therefore I have one listed in my shop, but I also have many custom paintings which naturally are done completely by me. Those should be Made by and they used to be.
What next?
I suspect it'll get corrected, eventually, because it's not accurate for the listed item at all, but we'll have to wait and see if and when it gets corrected by the site developers. I truly feel it's not intended to stay that way for Handmade items listings, it's an error.
All handmade items in my shop are labelled as Made by. They are made to order items.
