HELP - NEW SELLER FIRST SALE TROUBLES

Jump to solution

Hi,

I got a message this morning saying that someone had purchased something from me and I had to click a link to process the payment. I prefer to do payments through PayPal but for some reason it would only allow Visa/Mastercard, I put in the details and it then asked for the card balance, I don't like to keep money on any of my cards so I had put in 0 for the balance but I then got a message on the support chat saying that I had to have an account balance of at least 200 Euros, which is over $300 AUD, and my bank card had to be activated for online payments. I can understand wanting to reduce fraud cases but to ask I have that much at least on my card makes me question if this is a legit order, the order is also not showing up in my Orders and Shipping tab on the mobile website not the app. I have sent a few emails to the Etsy Support Team, but to be completely honest I am not feeling very safe and comfortable using Etsy to sell my products. If anyone has any solutions or can point me to a thread that can lead to a solution that would be great as I' seriously considering closing my shop on Etsy and opening it somewhere else.

Sorry to say it's a scam!

You have already set up your bank details in your shop manager. When you get your first real sale Etsy may ask you to verify your ID but that needs to be done through the shop manager as well and they will not ask for credit card details.

Buyers do not need your email address. Etsy already has it.

Don't click on links in emails (even if it looks legit - scammers are clever at faking)

Not an order at all. You have to educate yourself pretty quickly once you open a shop. Read the Forums.

Merhaba, benden nail istenmişti ve etsy support gelen maili onaylayın demişti. Çok ilginç bir durum.

I am new and was asked to enter my card details and card balance. I wasn't sure if it is a scam or it is the procedure from etsy for the new shop.

@TheImaginationLabArt

It's a scam. Don't give them anything. Also, this thread is nearly 1 year old. You'd probably get more replies if you started your own thread.

@CraftZDesigns Get in touch with your bank and cancel that card, you have given the details to a fraudster/scammer posing as Etsy. They may still make a speculative try at your money even though you accidentally told them there is too low a balance to make it worth their effort…

A sale will always show in your shop dashboard and will process automatically. This scam has nothing to do with Etsy and they would never have you give that information. I am glad you came here when you started to think something wasn't right.

I had a feeling something was wrong when it wouldn't allow me to use PayPal or Google pay to accept the sale payment. I have put the card I gave the details for into lock down until I contact the bank to have a new one issued

Hi Everyone, thank you all for your replies and alerting me that it is in fact a scam, I have put the card I gave the details to into lock down until I have a opportunity to go to the bank and have them issue a new card. Once again thank you all for the help, you've been more help to me than Etsy Support as I have not heard anything back yet in reply to the two emails I had sent them that included screen shots of both the message that contained the link to the process payment screen and the message from the support chat.
