HACKED - Have TWO shops, two email addressses, one shop inactive and was hacked

The question IS...and I cannot find the answer....is your ACCOUNT for a given particular shop? I want to get rid of the second unused shop that has been hacked. It uses a different email address than my main etsy shop which IS active. The second shop was hacked. I was able to log in to it, however the hacker had set up things on the "authenticator app" to go to their device. So I cannot disable it....thus I just need to shut things down. There is an outstanding amount of .79 POUNDS (not dollars...ugh) which I apparently CAN pay via Paypal. Should I do that? The hacker has also changed the payment information on the account....I hesitate to type anything in and correct that as I am unsure if the hacker can still get in to the shop. I have changed the password. I see "Delete your account" as an option but I DO NOT want that action to affect my primary shop and I am unsure if it will...even though there are two different email addresses. Can someone answer this please?

Re: HACKED - Have TWO shops, two email addressses, one shop inactive and was hacked

If you delete your shop in one account it will not affect your other account.

However I'd be wary that if you shut down the hacked shop whether it is possible for the hacker to re-open it using the authenticator.  I don't personally know how that works, maybe someone else will respond with their knowledge.

I would suggest reading this help center article and contacting Etsy Support so that they can fix up the shop account so that only you have access to it, then you can close it after you're sure the other person can not do any further damage: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015654008-What-to-Do-if-You-Suspect-Fraud-in-Your-Etsy-Ac...

You should also run virus checks on your devices to ensure they're not compromised - a hacker would have needed information about you in order to change the payment information so you want to make sure you're devices are not being monitored.

I would write to Etsy Support urgently! This is very serious, and not to be handled alone. Etsy must be notified of things like hacking going on on their platform.

@gallery28 I would do nothing to the hacked account and contact Etsy Support Specialists and report the issue immediately,

https://www.etsy.com/support-and-trust

Go down to Support specialists - then click  Selling on Etsy - then click your Etsy account - then my account was hacked and then you will have a further three options, use either My password was changed or My email was changed to report the issue via email include the url of the hacked account and they will get back to you within 1-2 days.

Re: HACKED - Have TWO shops, two email addressses, one shop inactive and was hacked

While I HAVE contacted etsy support...1-2 DAYS? And it's the weekend. I imagine the hacker COULD get back in during that time. If etsy cannot somehow see fit to have some way to have something done IMMEDIATELY in this sort of situation, then I must take care of it myself. I'm not going to WAIT 2 days for them to get their act together, ya know? And I WAS able to close the shop. The account still exists. I am logged into it on another browser so hopefully that might forestall any further activity. (Hacker seems to originate from Vietnam) I could delete the account but as someone else mentioned it might be able to be reopened.I have ALSO read that I can change the email address on the account, but if I do that I need to wait a week to close the account. Any thoughts on that?

Have you deleted all of the listings?  If they can't use your listings, that would at least slow them down.  Assuming they haven't already downloaded the pictures.

You could also add pictures, my account has been hacked, don't buy.  Or words to that effect.

Or have they locked you out of changing the listings?

Try to deactivate the credit card information as well.

Re: HACKED - Have TWO shops, two email addressses, one shop inactive and was hacked

If the shop was inactive that is an invitation to a hacker.  It's been happening somewhat frequently now.  That is what they look for.   See if you can change the password.  Submit a request – Etsy Help

If the bank account information is the same, then they have not changed it yet.  Still alert your bank that you may have a fraudulent situation with anything coming from the hacked shop.

If the credit card is present alert the credit card company too.  In fact you probably should cancel the card and get a new one.  You can't get a card until Tuesday if it is a bank card but you can alert the fraud department just in case.

Should you keep the active shop open.  Perhaps but you should immediately move to 2 factor authentication and change the password in the active shop.

Hackers are getting more and more able to do just about anything.

This is one reason to close a shop completely when not using it.  It stops the hacking and it can always be reopened later if you desire to.
