Getting drowned in scam-messages, why is Etsy not doing anything?

Jump to solution

I opened my shop a few days ago and keep getting scam messages.I dleeted over 20 already in 2 days from accounts using the Etsy logo saying I have an order, but because I'm new I need to verify first, from accounts claiming they can't place an order without my email address, etc etc.

I keep reporting them, but it's ridiculous that this is even happening.

What's Etsy going to do about this? If this keeps happening I won't be able to actually see if a potential buyer messages me, as I'll be completely ignoring every single message!

Hello, @alittlecraftattic

All accounts that messaged you with attempts to impersonate Etsy admin or send you unsafe links have already been actioned.

Are you marking them as spam?  You won't see any successive emails from the same user.  There are dozens of scammers at any one time on Etsy but marking the messages as spam should help get rid of the ones on here at the moment.

Yes, I marked all of them as spam before deleting them. Even got multiple new messages from an account I reported earlier.....

Don't delete them - send them to spam.

When you get an actual sale, there will be a 1 over your shop icon.  There will be money in your revenue section.

Etsy will not ASK FOR ANYTHING for the sale to go through.  It will just magically be there!

i marked as spam before i deleted them.

that is why I knew they were spam messages, that and the questions about my email and the formatting of them.

@alittlecraftattic: "why is Etsy not doing anything?" We can tell from other posts in this forum that Etsy is closing accounts created by scammers, but the reality is that the scam accounts can be created faster than Etsy can shut them down.

"I dleeted over 20 already in 2 days" As mentioned, you need to mark them as SPAM first.

@alittlecraftattic   @VKamian  I'm very sorry you are being hit by these thugs.  There have been many new Sellers coming to the Forum, stating that scammer Messages pop up shortly after they list new items. Quite frankly, I'm sick of them (the scammers obviously; I've not been targeted, but too many Sellers have and are still being targeted).

When you receive an Order, it will appear in the "Orders & Shipping" Page (in your Shop Dashboard). If it's not there, it's FAKE.
Should you receive a Message from a TRUE Etsy Support/Staff person, it will appear in the newly added "From Etsy" Folder (in your Messages). Here is the Announcement about this new Folder, as well as scams to watch out for. *(This Announcement was at the top of the Forum, but now is under past Announcements).
https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-From-Etsy-section-in-Messages/m-p/143722497#M1899

So you don't get dinged for Star Seller, Mark FAKE Messages as Spam. There really should be an option to Mark as Scam, but we don't have that option. Scam and Spam are two very different things. Also, it should be easy for Etsy to zap these rodents when they set up fake accounts, pretending to be Etsy Staff/Support. It should not be easy for them to do so.
