I just received a confusing message from a French customer:
"bonjour, les prix notés ne correspondent pas merci de mettre les bon prix vous remerciant belle journée"
This translates to something about my prices not matching. I'm not sure what this means or how to help my customer. Please can someone located in France help- are my displayed prices not matching the cart price, is currency conversion not working properly, or is there another issue I'm not seeing? Thanks in advance for your help.
Ok I only clicked on one listing so far but indeed there's something weird going on.
This listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/789669311/
Shows as 22.30€ on your shop page and when one clicks to the listing itself. But when one puts it in the cart, the price LOWERS to 18.74€. I thought maybe it was due to VAT but VAT is 5.93€.
I'll look at a few more and let you know if this seems consistent.
This one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/176765626
I first saw it under the other listing in the "you might also like" section for 24.98€
Click through and price changes to 24.78€
Put in cart and price changes to 20.82€
(tax is 6.33€)
Interesting. My actual price for the Sunburst Earrings is 17.73€ ($18 USD) and the hexagon earrings are 19.70€ ($20 USD). So it appears the cart price is probably the correct one, assuming the additional cost is for the currency conversion. No idea why it's showing a higher price in my shop, it definitely sounds like a bug. Thanks for taking the time to look!
I looked at this one https://www.etsy.com/listing/789679773
Listing page 24.98€
Click Listing 24.99€
In Basket. 20.82€
Something odd there.
I can see the same thing
My set price for these is 19.70€ ($20 USD) so something definitely seems to be off! Thanks for having a look at it for me, I appreciate it.
Non seulement il y a des prix différents entre la.fiche produit et la mise dans le panier mais en plus je vois qu'il faut ajouter 12.49 euros de frais de port et autant de taxe.
Bizarre
Thanks for this everyone! I appreciate you all taking the time to check. I'm chatting with Etsy now to get a bug report in. I hope they can fix it soon, this sounds like a confusing issue that might be preventing European customers from purchasing my items.
I'm curious if this is happening in other US shops as well or if it's specific to my shop. Anyone care to check another random US shop and see if the same issue occurs?
I checked one listing that came up under yours for a competitor in the US and same issue.
It’s the VAT. Is included in the listing page, but separated at the cart. The VAT showed in the cart is for the item and the shipping. Very confusing because it should always show included in the price.
Several people above have mentioned the VAT difference doesn't mention the cart difference so I'm not sure what's happening here. It does seem like a bug/miscalculation since the amounts don't match but perhaps I'm overlooking something.
@ProjectoAlfarroba
Hmmm. don't think it's VAT.
The price on the listing page for the triangle earrings is 22.30€
The price in the cart is 18.74
VAT in France is 20%
So the total of item cost + VAT (before shipping) should = 22.49€
But instead it's 22.30€
I see your first listing at 40.98. VAT for me is 23%. When I add to cart I see 33,32.
the cart shows 33.32 item +12.49 shipping + 10.84 VAT
The VAt is 23% *33.32 + 23%*12.29 = 7.67 + 2,87 = 10.84.
Now, 33.32 + 7.67 = 40,98 that is the price I see in the listing.
Do you think Etsy could make thing more complicated? It makes your head spin sometimes..
That number would be for 19% VAT. Is Etsy charging the wrong %?
For Portuguese VAT it seems correct. I see €18,74 in cart (the same as you because it has no VAT) and 23,05 in the listing page (€18,74*1,23)
@ProjectoAlfarroba
See my 2nd example at the top of the thread. That one is at 20% VAT when shown under a listing as "you might also like". But price changes when clicked on (before adding to cart). Something is wacky.
I've copy / pasted what I posted earlier:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/176765626
I first saw it under the other listing in the "you might also like" section for 24.98€
Click through and price changes to 24.78€
Put in cart and price changes to 20.82€
I see if correct for the Portuguese VAT (23%). €20,82 in cart and €25.61 in the listing.
I think Etsy is charging the French VAT incorrectly. 19% instead of 20%.
It would be interesting to see what is happening in other EU contrives, with different VAT rates.
ETA: @OwlAlwaysKnit has the correct numbers for the same listing. I think she’s in France too. Something is really wrong.
do you see the same in all your shops?
@ProjectoAlfarroba
No it's not that Etsy is charging the wrong VAT rate as the percentage isn't always the same. Also the prices change depending on what page you see them on -- BEFORE placed in the basket. Both @OwlAlwaysKnit and I are seeing that. In her example it's only 1 cent, in mine it was a little more. Maybe a conversion issue?
I'm in France so I won't see French VAT or any EU VAT in my shop. I will check if the UK VAT is being charged correctly!
Or do you mean do I see the same when viewing from my different shops? I will check! I never check from Spellbinderie because I opened that shop in the US and wacky things happen all the time so it's not a good shop to use for testing. I always check from one of my newer shops opened here. I checked from Frapperie, I'll try from Spellbinderie Too now.
@ProjectoAlfarroba Seems consistent that I'm seeing same prices in both shops. I looked at 3 different listings this morning and all had VAT at 19% so looks like you're right.
So that's an issue but at least @Chrysalism could explain to her buyer that the price on the listing page includes VAT and in the cart it's broken down. Hopefully that's what they mean and not the other problem --
Which is that there is the difference in price when viewing "MORE FROM THIS SHOP" at the bottom of any listing page. Prices there are not the same as when you click thru to the actual listing. It's just a small difference but it looks very unprofessional. They must be pulling that info from somewhere different, based on an older exchange rate possibly.
I have also seen a person also saying their 13.50 listing has been showing at 13 for a day or so now, but clicking through it's 13.50 (the correct price)
just a rambling, but I wonder if etsy is trying to fix the Canadian GST thing, and has messed it up for everyone else,
However, prices are strange for others too
