Favorites Setting auto changing from PUBLIC to PRIVATE

Hi Etsy,
We have been having an issue with favorites auto changing from PUBLIC setting to PRIVATE setting every time we "heart" or "favorite" other shops/sellers items. Our shop setting is set for PUBLIC viewing of our favorites, but as soon as we start "favoriting/hearting" items, the setting automatically changes to Private setting. We are having to constantly change the setting every single day multiple times a day and when on teams, others think we are not "hearting" their items as our setting keeps auto changing to Private even though we keep changing it back to Public and saving it. We are using a Desktop computer and Chrome. This has been happening since beginning of October. This appears to be a technical issue as others have said they are having same issue. Once we stop "favoriting" items it stays on Public, but the moment we start "favoriting/hearting" items setting changes to PRIVATE.

@SeasonalWreaths  as soon as you favorite an item it sends your favorites back to private.  I feel a bit like it is a game of whack-a-mole to keep changing it back to public LOL

12/22/2024 645 AM OH NO. It started again Sat yesterday. I went to one of my Lithium community teams to click and heart my teammates items, and I realized after each heart, my FAV ITEMS in my PROFILE page were turning back to PRIVATE again. After each heart of a sellers item, there is a pop up re Collections, then my Fav Items are Private. Moderator Modfabio please notify Etsy tech crew again and please fix this by or before Christmas so we can support our own Etsy friends and fav items. It seems it is not happening to every seller. But I am guessing it is just not me?? Thank you k1

This is frustrating to have this happening again.  Perhaps whatever fix Etsy made just didn't stick.  Every single time you favorite something it turns you Favorites back to Private - I have them Public for a reason!  Please Etsy, can you have a look as see if this could be fixed once and for all.

This issue is really becoming tiresome.  Any time I favorite anything I have to go and change them back to public from private.  I have them public for a reason, please try to find a permanent fix for this.  Thank you in advance

Still  having issues even on my laptop. Keeps going back to private just in one of my shops not both which is strange.

Hi Etsy,

Many shops are having this problem with our FAVORITES setting auto changing from the PUBLIC setting to the PRIVATE setting every single time you "heart or favorite" an item.  This keeps happening. All you have to do is 'heart" one item and it changes the setting.  If you immediately go into your favorites setting and change it from 'PRIVATE' to "Public",  and then go heart another item, it auto changes it right back to PRIVATE again. This is a non stop circle. Change it to Public, heart an item, go check favorites see it's auto changed to Private again, change it back to Public, heart something else, check see it's back to Private again, change to to public, heart something else, and on and on and on.  It just keeps auto changing back.  Please do something about this as on our dashboard activity feed, we all have 0 views of anyone looking at anything.  The entire site seems to be out of whack.  No sales, no views, no favorites, no NOTHING. DEAD.  What is the issue here and can you fix it? We can't operate a business like this!

Shabby, I hear your frustration. It is still happening to me as well. It stopped for awhile which was lovely, but came back. I heard that the number affected has increased dramatically in the last few days.  Maybe Kelly, Vice President of Global Communications and Community at Etsy who seems really active in forums and smart, and is often posting in announcements will catch this thread of yours. I contacted Help but kept being asked by a different CSR person each time, for a snapshot, or one CSR suggested I update my browser. They did not really understand what I was talking about. I requested that they forward my email to Etsy corp tech dept anyway please, but they said they could not without a snapshot. So I replied thank you, I give up and the responses stopped. lol Last time, someone posted here on your thread Shabby that Etsy is working on it. Lets hope someone cares to at least address this issue in announcements soon. Caring builds trust, trust builds seller enthusiasm, seller enthusiasm brings more listings and higher sales for all. k1

Hi everyone,
I think this happened about a month ago and it seems to me that it looks like counteraction to ETSY, when sellers help
each other with Favorites in the community (for example https://community.etsy.com/t5/art/POST-3-HEART-15/td-p/84286208/page/5144)
It is clear that in such communities there are honest sellers who, in accordance with the rules of the flow, put Favorites (or re-Fav), and there are dishonest ones who simply post their post with a listing (listings) without burdening themselves with Favorites for other sellers.
About a month ago, I noticed to my surprise that honest sellers (many, almost all) stopped liking me. I check their profile and see that they have 0 Favorites (which, as I now understand, means that all their previously placed likes have been transferred to the private state).
Looks like I found the answer.

I'd appreciate it if anyone else has experienced similar situations or has any insights to share.

This thread is from October, but its still happening. I wasn't aware of it until I saw someone post about it the other day, and now every time I check my favorites, they've gone back to being private again.

Yes this is still happening and support doesn't do anything about it. They will tell you to clear your cache or delete your cookies which fixes nothing. It does seem to be directed at team threads supporting each other but has now bled over to non teams as well. Both times this has happened I've seen a direct drop in my views and sales. I have spoken to Etsy and emailed numerous times with ZERO help. They could care less but they are certainly making sure they get every dime of fees they can charge. I truly wish there was another website to go and sell on. So discouraging and frustrating.

Hi Etsy,

As has been reported many many times, this problem with our favorites auto changing from PUBLIC to PRIVATE after only "hearting" 1 item is still happening.  We can clear our cache, change our favorite setting back to PUBLIC over and over and over again, but the favorites setting auto changes back to PRIVATE all the time whether saved or not.  This is a HUGE problem Etsy as most of us depend on others for favorite items to be pushed out into Etsy land for sales and views.  Our sales and views have dropped 50% this month. This is HUGE. We have been selling on Etsy for 14 years and our business is like when we just started out long long ago. This must be affecting Etsy revenue as well. Your bottom line depends on our sales and if we aren't getting the customers and business we're used to then it hurts all of us. Please look into this matter and get it fixed as well as the horrible search that's been implemented and having shops "localized".  If we aren't "open" for business 24/7 around the world, why are we selling here?

As long as Etsy has marked this thread as "Solved" they won't even look at it again. Everybody needs to start getting loud and in their face about this. Totally absolutely insane what they are doing to us.

Hi all,

I have contacted Etsy thru the useless chat so many times and nothing ever gets fixed and no one gets back to you.

The people in chat are nice but cannot help us at all, no power to do anything. They just say they will pass on our message to admins but not sure if they all do and if they do no one at Etsy does anything!

This has been happening for months and sometimes right after changing faves to Public it changes right back. You dont have to be faving anything for it to just change back to Private.

Finally today it stayed Public all day since I last changed it last night. I have been promoting on teams today.

There is really no way to be seen on Etsy by shoppers, no revolving front page of shops and items like they used to have, and such horrible search no one can find anything.

No way to get seen or get sales hardly at all unless someone searches for something specific that you have and even then search is terrible.

We need a way to be promoted and if Etsy does not like or help teams then what is the point of paying to be on here, too many bad changes all the time, so annoying.

My sales have tanked for a few years now and Etsy would benefit if they would fix this site to be more seller friendly.

I am starting to sell elsewhere too so hope other sites will be better and at least let you run your own shop etc.

I have to agree. I'm looking to outside sites also. My sales are down 50% since this private public mess. Etsy could care less about it's vendors. All they care is how much they can suck out of you for giving as little as possible. Going to start slowing moving my stuff away and sadly will just eventually close my shop. Can't continue to justify the cost when Etsy actively works against their vendors. This is beyond sad.

This is February and this problem is still with all of us.  Can't this get fixed?  Our shops and sales have hit the bottom due to this problem and the terrible search that no one can figure out - sellers or buyers! This it is affecting everyone and it must be affecting your bottom line. Please look into getting this fixed asap.
