Etsy 'closed' my account and I've no idea why!

Hi,

I raised a query with Etsy on 10th July 2023 as I was having problems with email notifications from themselves. Sometimes I got them, sometimes I didn't. I received an email from 'Lola' in 'Etsy Trust & Safety' offering me some suggestions to try and it that didn't remedy things, to get back in touch. It was still happening so I contact her again. This time the reply was from 'Chill' again from 'Etsy Trust & Safety' who asked for some security questions. I gave what I thought was the right answers - I'm dyslexic so have problems with words and numbers. Usually I get my husband to check things over just in case I make mistakes, but on this occasion I didn't for some reason...

That was the last I heard from 'Chill' and yesterday (13th July) I noticed that my account had been closed. As far as I'm aware I have received no emails explaining why this has happened, but with having problems already with emails, they could have done but I've not received it.

I asked my husband for advice and he thinks I may have inadvertently given 'Chill' the wrong answer to one of the security questions - the date when my account was opened. I thought they wanted to know the date when my shop was opened for business, but I now know they wanted to know when my account was set up. It was entirely my mistake as I read the question wrong, which sadly often happens due to my dyslexia.

I've filed an appeal with Etsy this morning - 14th July - so I'm hoping they will look on my case favorably. In all the years I've been with Etsy this is the first time I've had to contact them for help or indeed had any problems with them.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just a little annoyed with myself as once again my dyslexia may have got me into trouble! I'm forever getting logged out of online banking as keep getting my passcode wrong. I know what I want to type but my brain has other ideas!

My worry is, I have never been asked my store creation date from etsy--it makes me wonder if it was etsy you were communicating with. Were you responding to a support ticket you had opened? The most they have asked me is to confirm my name so they know how to address me.

You've done the best thing with appealing the closure, etsy can be a little slow in their responses, hopefully you hear back soon and get your store back asap

Re: Etsy 'closed' my account and I've no idea why!

I made my enquiry about the non-receipt of the emails via Etsy's own website and received an email reply - which appeared to be genuine - with a support number and a copy of what I'd written. I seem to remember they asked for some security questions.

I have just received an email from Etsy in reply to my appeal submission, which was done via Etsy's website. A copy of what I'd wrote in my submission was also there. Etsy say they have temporality limited my access because they detected a suspect login and it's to protect my personal and financial information. They've asked for the following security questions - full name,  month and year account was created, shipping address, the city I mostly access my account from, which internet browser I use and do I use any mobile devices to log into my account.

Given what you've said that I might not have been communicating with Etsy, I'm now worried about sending them a reply!

@TheWestcountryWitch I've been asked that. It's one of their many security questions, only 2-4 of which get asked each time.

I had a run where I had to do this every single time I opened a ticket or replied to one.

Ok, if you go here https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115013375488-How-to-Contact-Etsy-Support and sign in, if you click your avatar, you can see open support requests. If you do not, I would suggest just for peace of mind, creating a support ticket from the above link.

Scroll down, click contact support--selling on etsy--my account was suspended--scroll down file appeal. Then you will have access to the request on etsy's website as well. You will still get an email, but for peace of mind with so many scammers out there at the mo, you can reply via the help section rather than your email.

Re: Etsy 'closed' my account and I've no idea why!

I checked my details, as you suggested on Etsy's website, and everything that was sent to be via an email is on there.

Just to be on the safe side I have replied via the website.

Many thanks for all your help.

@macsantique so as not to take this thread off course for the OP You may want to start your own thread. If you do , to help , we will need to know what the warning are for and how they are worded.

We're supposed to remember when we opened our accounts?

The date you opened an Etsy account is shown under You > Account settings.  The date you opened shop is on the Dashboard > Settings > Shop info and appearance.
