Etsy Withholding our money, 6 months, banking technical error, Refusing to help $21,000 in Limbo

Hello Etsy forums, My name is Joe.

        Me and my business partners recently began selling on Esty in September 2022. We sell wooden signs and have had a fairly successful start to our shop. Unfortunately we have been having problems verifying our bank account. We currently have over $21,000 in our payment account. It has been a lengthy process but ill attempt to summarize it the best that I can.

        The first time we attempted to verify, we did not receive a micro deposit. The Second time, we received the deposit, but had nowhere to input the information. I called Etsy support and they told me that I would have to restart the process. I was a little bit frustrated, but I decided to trust them. Ever since that point, we have not received a micro deposit. I called Etsy support again to try and figure out what I should do next. I was told to retrieve a bank statement and enter my bank information with the "my account is in a different currency" selected. They told me when I do this, I will be able to upload a bank statement to verify my information manually. The problem is, when I enter this information with that option selected, I am not given the window to upload the statement. There is a permanent error on my payment setting page saying, 

We couldn’t verify your bank—try again with a new deposit

Re-enter your bank details and we’ll send another small deposit to your account. Then, confirm the exact amount to finish verifying your bank.

   

      Whenever we attempt to re-enter our details, we are brought back to the payment setting page with the error message, and the verification not seeming to go through. We have even tried opening a business' account and switching to that but the same error occurs.

     I have been on the phone with Etsy support, and this is not an exaggeration, at least 50 times, costing me hours and hours of my time. Every time, I am told the same thing, That the technical team will be in contact soon. Unfortunately, after very little trouble shooting, the technical team closes my ticket without explanation. Now, This message is the last thing we received from the technical team, which is the same message we received months ago about the issue. (I've taken out the name of the responding technical team member)

     As you can see, this message is not very reassuring after 6+ months of this issue persisting. We have had to put our account on vacation mode as we can not afford the material costs any longer. We are still paying rent and have our credit cards maxed out. We have over $21,000 in our account ready to deposit which we need to pay rent and stay afloat. We have been told by supervisors, and members of the finance team that the issue is currently being looked at and would be solved in the next 72 hours. Both times we were told that, the issue was not resolved and no update was provided. I'm convinced I was only told that to get me off the phone. 

    At this point, I really don't know what to do. I have tried to convince etsy to let me personally email one of the specialists our bank statement so that they can manually verify us but they will not let us. I have tried contacting as many Esty engineers and employees as I can through linked in with no luck. I have tried absolutey everything and am on the verge of losing everything. This should be a simple fix, but nobody at etsy seems to care about us.  Has anybody experienced this before? Does anybody have any advice? I am in the same boat as you are, Etsy disconnected my bank account, I did not request this, I did not envision how much time it was going to take to get to talk to a living breathing member of tech support.  I have also been deleted from the only platform I know of where you can speak directly to a person on the other side.  I have tried over a dozen times to get my money I am owed, which is now almost 4000.00.  I thought this can not be the way they are actually running a business, as  it will in no  time cause us the sellers to simply close shops and find a new platform, which is kind of where I am at now.  I sell mostly Antiques with a lot of expensive items that I am getting very nervous about continuing to send after a sale is made.  Can anybody confirm that eventually they do release the money into the right bank account?

I think you should seriously consider legal representation, that is ridiculous and I am sorry you are going through this.

You need a lawyer. Them holding $21,000 of yours and telling you "We know there is a problem for some but we only fix things based on how many are impacted" is NOT an answer. They could pay you 5 other ways.
