My Etsy USPS postage labels are defaulting to Priority mail, when the customer picks ground. And I can't click ground, it won't let me, it just moves the screen up and keeps it on priority mail. Is this a known bug someone is fixing? I guess I have been meaning to look into other shipping options too, if anyone has a recommendation. I am not paying way more per label for a service they did not pay for and my orders must ship today.
when shipping on Etsy gets questionable; Pirateship is the answer!
Are you using a browser or the app?
Browser. I haven't changed anything in my process in a really long time.
Are you using Calculated Shipping? If so, Etsy still hasn't updated GA on our shipping profiles. In order for it to default to GA when 1# or over, you need to have Parcel Select also enabled to prevent it from going to Priority. Do you have that enabled?
Sorry, I replied below on accident. I having a day here trying to figure out where to buy labels.
This! More than a year and it still has not been updated! I made sure a long time ago to select parcel select.
how do you get Parcel Select for calculated shipping. I don't see it

Thank you!
I do calculated shipping, and have both priority mail and ground selected. Both are also shown at checkout as options. I haven't updated my shipping profiles in a long time. Some orders default to ground, some that are very close in pricing jump to priority mail, even though that is not the paid for or selected method. This happens a lot, and I can just click ground as the option, but now that isn't working.
Until Etsy fixes our profiles, the only way to prevent the heavier packages from going to Priority is to have Parcel Select Ground enabled. That doesn't show on the buyer's end. They still select Ground or Priority.
It's dumber than dirt, but I was having this issue until others in the forums told me how to work around it.
Ground Adv. does NOT show for everything. I still have to select parcel select so I can ship ground adv.
I have that selected. It is the last option, USPS Parcel Select Ground. Am I missing something obvious?
I can't even select Parcel Select Ground
Use www.PirateShip.com - it's the same pricing as Etsy. AND . . . if for some reason you mistakenly printed a higher priced label, Pirate ship will automatically refund you the difference.
This just happened to me this morning! It said buyer requested priority mail! So I ended up having to pay $5 more to ship. But the next order it let me choose ground advantage.
In order to generate GA rates w/ calculated shipping profiles, you MUST enable BOTH FCM & PSG ... you can also enable PM as the upgrade option. At checkout, buyers will see the verbiage FCM, PSG, PM ... it does not say GA even though they are GA rates ... the buyer then selects which service they want to pay for. Of course anything selected as FCM or PSG will actually ship as GA (most buyers know that, but some don't!). If you use fixed/manual rates, then you can select GA as your shipping service and it will actually show GA verbiage at checkout. Etsy really need to fix the calculated shipping GA verbiage faux pas!!
Pricing varies between Etsy & Pirate Ship depending upon sizing ... they both offer commercial rates, but PS gives more cubic rate savings. However, recently I have found at times that PS is actually more expensive for some packages with the exact same weight & size.
@TBQSC I am assuming your FCM is First Class Mail. But I don't see anything that would equate to PSG. See my post further down for what I see as the choices for shipping profiles.
@GroundZeroCreations ... the PSG (Parcel Select Ground) is found under "advanced shipping services" in the Calculated Shipping Profiles ... click on that sentence and it will give you the Media Mail and Parcel Select Ground options. Sorry the for the acronyms, I was in a hurry to type, lol!
The rates are calculating correctly for the customer. Only a few orders defaulted to priority mail, most stayed on the ground option. I had 6 labels total out of 16 that would only let me pick PMS, all my other labels defaulted to ground. I only have those options clicked, and have always only had those two options. It has always worked before, and it never defaulted to an upgraded option the customer did not pick and not allow me to change it. I can try clicking the other options. Thank you
@TBQSC It is so odd because I don't think we all see the same thing when it comes to shipping. Because I checked both shipping profile and then choices for shipping an order and this is what I see. I don't see PSG anywhere. When I click advanced for the shipping profile that is when I can see USPS media mail. When fulfilling an order to see media mail I have to click See More USPS Mail Classes. It almost sounds like some have been updated while others have not. As if we didn't know that.
Shipping profile choices
USPS First Class (no insurance)
USPS Priority Mail (insurance up to $100)
USPS Priority Mail Express (insurance up to $100)
USPS Media Mail (no insurance included)
When I go to an order to select shipping type I see:
USPS Ground Advantage (insurance up to $100)
USPS Priority Mail (insurance up to $100)
Priority Mail Express (insurance up to $100)
USPS Media Mail (no insurance)
I switched from Google to Firefox. On Firefox, I was able to switch the shipping selection. Hope this helps!
Unfortunately, that did not help me. I have tried everything. Every time I click a box my screen jumps and won't let me highlight a box. Etsy messaging help has not helped at all. They just refer it up the chain and no one ever contacts me. My brain is fried on this.
A disadvantage to purchasing shipping labels outside of Etsy is that you have to come back to the order, enter the tracking number and show it as shipped. I prefer to avoid that, so I purchase my labels via Etsy. Fortunately, I rarely ship anything over a pound so have not run into that issue yet.
The fact of the matter is Etsy needs to spend time on correcting/updating things like this instead of coming up with hair brained schemes that remind me more of network marketing than a platform supporting independent sellers.
Our of curiosity, I went to my shipping profiles to create a new profile and these were the choices they were showing me or domestic shipping:
USPS First Class (no insurance)
USPS Priority Mail (insurance up to $100)
USPS Priority Mail Express (insurance up to $100)
USPS Media Mail (no insurance included)
It is really shameful that Etsy has not corrected this mess! Shame on their faces!
When I go to an order to select shipping type I see:
USPS Ground Advantage (insurance up to $100)
USPS Priority Mail (insurance up to $100)
Priority Mail Express (insurance up to $100)
USPS Media Mail (no insurance)
I have no idea why your options are not all showing. Is there a page two for you? Ground is a clickable option in my calculated shipping profiles.
