I've been a seller on Etsy since 2009. My shop is in good standing and is my full time job. A few days ago I noticed a steep decline in visits and sales. Thinking maybe it was the school year starting slowing things down I wasn't too concerned. Now I've had 3 days with 0 or 1 sale where I used to get 20+/day. I started digging in my ads account only to find there have been no ad views since August 3rd. A little more digging and I found that my shop is no longer showing up in search results (MamaBear BabyWear), nor are my listings.
Forum discussions let me to believe that my shop was deindexed (I'm not tech savvy so I'm not 100% sure what that even means), so I reached out to Etsy support. I got a call back and that person couldn't assist me so she escalated it to their tech people. That ticket number isn't showing up in my open tickets. I also sent an email. She said 2-3 days before someone gets back to me. I'm a little terrified right now as this is my only income.
Any experience with this? Is there anything I can do? Any idea how long it will take Etsy to fix this?
So I woke up this morning and did a disheartening check to see and... YAY! I could search my items again! My shop shows up in search results as well. However, my Etsy ads account says that my shop is "in vacation mode or is inactive" so I cannot use Etsy ads. Any ideas how to fix that? I'm not in vacation mode or inactive...
I would give it some time. The behind the scenes techie stuff may have thought your shop was "inactive" - that is how a deindexed shop is viewed? Have no idea how long it takes to regain "memory".
Then if after a certain length of time you're comfortable with, if you Ad account still shows the same notice, you'll need to contact Etsy for help yet again.
Yay they finally fixed you! Did they send you an email or did you just have to find out yourself?
It's still appalling that it took them so long though. They really need 24/7 support on a billion-dollar marketplace. I noticed today there was a 'chat with us' button on my dashboard but I've looked again now and it's gone. Like a ridiculous unicorn...
My shop has been reindexed. Thank you all for your comments and support. As a note, for others facing similar troubles - I did NOT receive an email (aside from the automated support email upon opening the ticket) when the shop was reindexed. Instead I just woke up yesterday morning and checked it and that’s how I found out. I could suddenly find my shop in search results and my items in my own shop search bar around 8:30AM. Then today I finally received an email from Etsy support that was sort of a cut and paste of a variety of different “issues” that might be leading to my shop not showing up in search results - issues that were completely unrelated to the ACTUAL issue of Etsy’s apparent glitch - (including that other shops were using my shop name in their product tags). No mention of having been deindexed at all. A little frustrating but at least I’m back online and searchable. Permanently uneasy now though lest it happen again.
Thanks for enlightening us with your feedback.
While waiting, maybe figure out how many sales and much, in dollars, you've lost due to Etsy's behavior. Base it on two time periods:
This will give a basis for requesting Etsy to make up your losses due to their mistakes. Will they? - you can only try.
very logical, I should definitely try it
Ive been Deindexed since last Saturday. No Emails, no response, no support. I guess the bright side is that I have been posting my items on their competitors sites ever since.
I'm sorry to hear that. I ended up finding that chatting provided the most immediate assistance. Their "customer service" email response system is a JOKE! And they expect us to respond to customers within 24 hours! What do they have, like 5 techs? I expect more from a multimillion dollar platform that makes THOUSANDS off of my work every year.
