Hi australian sellers , does anyone know why etsy are charging me small shipping fees whether or not i use etsy shipping.. its not huge amounts , its less than 50 cents and 3 or 4 cent charges but theres like 3 or 4 per purchase and it is adding up.
The Shipping transaction fee has nothing to do with where you buy your shipping. It is Etsy's transaction fee on the shipping the buyer pays as part of the overall transaction. You pay 6.5% transaction fees on the item price and the shipping. If you roll the shipping into the item price and offer "free shipping" you will only see one transaction fee on the total price, but if you charge shipping separately, it is shown as two transaction fees, one on the item and one on the shipping. Either way it is the same amount.
On the other hand, if you are talking about lots of small charges, that is probably GST on the fees you pay Etsy. Unless you are registered for GST (and most Etsy sellers would not be) Etsy is required under Australian law to collect GST on the services we buy from them. The services are the various fees associated with selling here and for each fee relating to a sale there will be a corresponding GST charge of 10% of the fee.
