While scrolling Pinterest last night, I came across an Etsy ad with a photo of my jewelry. Then I noticed the description below was not for that listing at all. When I clicked through the link, it went to someone else's listing entirely! A few minutes later, I came across another one where the photo used didn't go to the correct listing. Is anyone aware of this, or has AI gone rogue?
This is not my listing, but here is one example I came across this morning where the photo used goes to a different listing: https://pin.it/5a531f3HG
I've seen several of these in the past 24 hours. Hopefully this can be fixed, because it's not very helpful to being paying for ads that don't link to your listing.
Etsy will often use photos from a shop in Google ads for whole categories of products - I've noticed this when reverse image searching items. It sounds like you have images the AI bots like.
I don't use Pinterest much, so I haven't noticed how it works there.
Unfortunately, these aren't linking to a broad category. When clicked, they go straight to a specific listing that doesn't match the pin shown on Pinterest.
Pinterest may be messing with things. They get stuff from Etsy but they, like Facebook and Google, decide what to do with it. Also I do think photos can be stolen on Pinterest just like they can elsewhere. That's another issue.
Hey FireImp, this seems to be an issue with Etsy's dynamic ad system on Pinterest. Etsy uses automated algorithms to generate ads, sometimes pulling incorrect images or descriptions. This could be a glitch in how Etsy syncs with Pinterest or how Pinterest tracks ad URLs.
To troubleshoot:
1. Check if the affected listings are part of your Etsy Ads campaign.
2. Review your Pinterest tracking settings and ensure your Etsy shop is correctly linked.
3. Report this to Etsy support—if multiple sellers are experiencing it, they may escalate the issue.
Etsy’s AI-driven ads are usually optimized for conversions, but when they misfire like this, it's frustrating—especially if you’re paying for them. Keep an eye on your ad reports in Etsy to see if any unintended listings are gaining traffic. Let me know if you need help digging deeper!
That was a great answer. I learned something from your answer. Thank you.
Im really glad you found the advice helpful! Etsy can be challenging, but with the right strategy, you’ll start seeing progress. If you ever need more tips or a shop review, feel free to ask. Wishing you lots of success
I recently noticed an Etsy ad for one of my listings on Pinterest and when I went through the photos attached to it there was another sellers photograph among my photos. I've also seen my photos used by Etsy ads and when I clicked on it, it took me to another sellers listing.
It's nice to hear that somebody else has noticed this too! They really need to sort this out asap!
