This has been going on about a month for me personally but I'm aware for some sellers it's been going on a lot longer.
The Post Office have recently informed me that they have been made aware of the issue, but until this point I was having a lot of push back with them asking me to reprint them, etc. I am not getting sufficient proof of postage for my parcels because of this - just a number, with no way to connect it to a specific order should something go wrong.
As a British Etsy seller, I have to use Etsy labels to get faux tracking to be illegible for Star Seller. So this issue requires urgent resolve.
To any Etsy staff reading this, please consider this a complaint regarding Star Seller and the faux tracking number issue for British sellers, but also regarding Etsy Labels themselves.
I am going to switch back to Royal Mail click & drop until Etsy release a statement that the issue is fixed.
@MinnieMaudsAttic , no as you can imagine I can’t find the thread that was explicitly talking about that, it was possibly under another subject and people got sidetracked ha ha. Let’s hope it’s not going to transpire.
PS, in the link from Cindy Lou, she does say that as of May 25th this year, UK and other non-US long term sellers are being put on payment reserve for not using tracking that complies with Etsy tracking. The chat I saw was implying that the requirement to use Etsy labels was the next step.
here’s another thread on the issue
This still is a problem. I buy my labels for Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed postage from ETSY. Even then they are not being released from reserve on my account because ETSY software cannot seem to pick up any tracking from Royal Mail, UNLESS I send about 6 emails , go through multiple layers of customer avoidance bots, and eventually find someone who reads my email properly and manually "refreshes the system" (ETSY software) at which point it picks up the item is actually in transit. ETSY are aware of this problem as it was an ETSY helpdesk guy (called John G.) who explained "Please know that after a period of inactivity, Etsy's system can stop checking for tracking updates from the carrier. I refreshed the tracking on Etsy, and it now matches what the carrier is displaying on their site. If you're not already seeing it, give it a few minutes and refresh the page." It happens every time to me though.
I believe part of the problem is that the ETSY labels ask Post Office staff to scan the "upper right barcode". Post Office staff tell me they can't as it doesn't recognise the barcodes so they scan the QR code. I've actually watched them try, so they aren't lying. I assume the barcode is to link things up but the software at use at PO counters isn't compatible. Which begs the questions which idiots wrote this software ( A common question I ask).
