Hello, I am extremely upset because I just found out I was somehow opted into running Etsy advertisements the past several months without knowing it. I definitely did not turn on Etsy ads for my 22 listings. I know I did not turn it on because I tried Etsy ads once before and decided not to do them again.
This happened one other time where I discovered the ads setting was turned on and I had a hard time switching it off.
I am extremely upset, I don't get much profit as it is from Etsy and now the profit I was so excited about this quarter is all gone from ads that I did NOT initiate myself.
Does anyone know of any discreet checkbox or setting that may have been auto-checked? I'm think it must have been at the time I created a ton of new listings, because I haven't edited any settings since then.
I am so, so sad
@StudioCala : There is a radio button at the very bottom (on desktop browser, anyway) of the edit listing page that says "Marketing Want to promote this listing on Etsy as part of your Etsy Ads campaign?". It probably defaults to yes.
That button only shows up if you are already advertising on Etsy Ads. I don't have that button, because I'm not.
If you turned on Etsy Ads, you would have received an email.
There are two kinds of Etsy ads. Which one are you talking about? Adding, you didn't notice the charges in your shop payment account? They would be hard to miss.
There are 2 sorts of paid advertising: Etsy Ads (in Etsy search results) and Etsy Offsite Ads (on Facebook, Google, etc)
Sellers usually have to enable the internal Etsy Ads themselves, in the Marketing section of teh Shop Manager menu. They are charged per click.
The Offsite Ads are enabled by default, and you have to switch them off. The Offsite Ads control screen is not in the Marketing menu of the Shop Manager, instead it is hidden in the general shop Settings menu. They are charged as a percentage of all sales to any buyer who has clicked on one of your offsite ads in the last 30 days, 15% if your sales are under $10,000 USD / year. If you ever make more than $10,000 USD in a rolling year your shop becomes permanently forced to use Offsite Ads, but the fee drops to 12%.
