We had to open our Etsy store under my husband's name and use his bank account because, at the time, I didn’t have a bank account, which is a required field in Etsy. Now that I have opened my own bank account, we want to update the information and change the details to my name. This is not a transfer of ownership but rather a correction to reflect the original intention, as I am the one producing the figures and handling all production aspects. My husband simply assists with administrative and logistical tasks when necessary. We have not completed the account verification yet, but we are already facing the challenge of not being able to change the account details. We would greatly appreciate your support in making these changes correctly, ensuring that all data reflects our actual situation. If anyone else has experienced something similar or has suggestions on how to proceed, I would be very grateful for your advice. I look forward to your assistance in resolving this issue properly.
You can't change ownership of an Etsy shop, read this: https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040985353-Can-I-Transfer-My-Etsy-Account-to-Someone-Else?...
If you want the shop in your name, you will have to open a new one and use the correct banking information for verification, and submit driver's license etc.
@StorePorcelana:As @AutumnHollowStudio states, Etsy is probably considering this an attempt to transfer ownership.
"I look forward to your assistance in resolving this issue properly." Just so you know, even if Etsy Support or the Help Pages sent you here this is a seller peer to peer forum, and should not be considered a way to contact Etsy, if that is your hope (although Etsy does sometimes read and reply to posts).
To contact Etsy, try https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?segment=selling or https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?segment=selling#issue_sell_manage_listings-callback or you can open a support ticket through Dashboard > Community & Help > Contact Us
You can't change the owner of a shop, etsy won't allow it,
if the shop is in your husbands name, it has to be his bank account and tax ID,
You can open another shop, in your name, with your bank and tax ID,
as this shop only has 1 sale, you are not loosing any history that would have built up in a long-term shop.
change the e-mail on this shop, if you want to use it in a new shop
Thank you for the clarification. Do you know if there’s a way not to lose the clients we already have? For instance, can I send them a message letting them know about the new shop, or will I lose them completely if we switch to a new Etsy store? Any advice on how to handle this transition while keeping our customers would be greatly appreciated."
@StorePorcelana: "... can I send them a message letting them know about the new shop ..." Only if they gave you permission in advance to contact them, otherwise you are violating essentially every anti-spam law in existence and definitely violating Etsy's Terms Of Use.
You can put an announcement om the top of your shop saying you have a new shop, run by you, with the name of the new shop.
don't close this shop completely.
However , you only have 1 customer, so not sure if it's worth doing.
Thank you so much for taking the time to provide a solution, and congratulations on your shop and all that you do! My husband and I feel really sad about this situation because we put a lot of love and effort into this shop. In less than a month, we launched it and uploaded several products.Your advice is incredibly helpful, and we appreciate your guidance during this transition.
If your husband does administrative and logistical tasks you can keep this shop under his name--you could then add yourself as a shop member. That way you could keep this shop open if you desire and still be "Etsy" legal.
Are you both working the shop? If so you can keep the shop just add yourself to the about page. You can keep your husband's details.
However, opening a new store would have advantages. Your shop needs current shop policies for the EU. And since there aren't many sales, a new shop would allow more freedom.
I really appreciate you taking the time to share your advice. Your suggestion about opening a new store and updating the shop policies for the EU makes a lot of sense. While my husband supports me with certain aspects of the shop, I’m responsible for all the creative and production work. The challenge is that my husband isn’t self-employed, so we need to transfer everything to my name since I am the one who will manage the shop moving forward. Opening a new store is an option, but we’ve put so much effort into this one that we’re hoping to keep it if possible. Thank you again for your helpful insight
Thank you so much for the idea and for taking the time to respond. The issue is that my husband wouldn't be able to keep this account because he's not self-employed, and he has his own job, plus the payments would go to his bank account. So, it would be quite a challenge for him to maintain it. That's why we wanted to update the information to my name, as initially, we had set everything up temporarily under his name until I got my own bank account. We didn't expect that this would be considered an account transfer.
Of course it is your and his decision but an Etsy shop should not take up your entire time like that. A lot--and I mean a LOT of shop owners here also have full time jobs elsewhere and work their shop when they are at home.
I have 2 shops that I work entirely on my own and even tho I no longer work outside the home the "maintaince" part does not take me that much time that I could not work. Most of my time is taken up making (sewing) the items I sell, not "adminstering" time. And you have separate bank accounts? That seems really strange to me since in the US most married people have joint accounts.
Anyway--like I said--your decision, it was just a suggestion. I am sure you know which is best in your country. Best of luck with whatever you chose.
Spain has quite strict laws
If you sell, before you even verify, you have to have a VAT number, and pay social security payments up front, as self employed,
it is really not a user-friendly system at all
registering wrongly can cause all sorts of problems
Isn't the bank account in both of your names? All adults should have their own bank accounts, especially women.
