Deactivating errors?

I just received a deactivation notice for an item that is not in my shop and has never been. How does that happen?

In the process of checking my shop for that wrong deactivation, I found another deactivation for a product that is an angel oil lamp and was never notified. There should be no reason for the angel oil lamp deactivation. Will not let me activate the item.

Need assistance with both of these issues since I am really confused.

Thanks

Re: Deactivating errors?

@GrammyBeesAttic: There are quite a few errors occurring with Etsy lately, including erroneous deactivation eMails.

It is almost impossible for us to determine exactly why a particular listing was deactivated, but Etsy is cracking down on what they feel inappropriate. Copyright and trademark infringements is a large factor, but it also seems that the bots are looking for trigger words and phrases with no consideration for context. Just as an example that may or may not apply to you, if you say an item is ivory colored the listing may get flagged because ivory is not allowed to be sold on Etsy. Since Etsy is now also factoring descriptions in search, they along with titles, tags, and materials (and possibly even alt tags if you are using them) are all probably being checked. And the bots are also "reading" images.

Even if Etsy Support or the Help Pages sent you here this is a seller peer to peer forum, and should not be considered a way to contact Etsy, if that is your hope (although Etsy does sometimes read and reply to posts). You can open a support ticket through Dashboard > Community & Help > Contact Us

Re: Deactivating errors?

Thank you for your input. It's an angel oil lamp so I'll see what on earth would be the no no trigger for them.

The other one was shot gun shells (empty) for crafts, but they are sending me  a deactivation notice now for something they removed a year ago.

Would be SO nice if Etsy would be a bit more "hands on" for things.

@ShellyBeesShop

Spent shell casings are not allowed to be sold on Etsy - it is in the Prohibited Items policy.

Re: Deactivating errors?

Someone explained to me that you can reload the casings, which I had NO clue. I'll make a string of lights out of them to see if that works. LOL Won't be on the top of my list.

Re: Deactivating errors?

@GrammyBeesAttic   @ShellyBeesShop - Read this for your shells - Etsy does not allow the sale of them:

https://www.etsy.com/legal/policy/weapons/207958817249

As for the Oil Lamp, well Etsy's bots have become a bit over zealous lately, deactivating items without rhyme or reason.
However, possibly you used the word "ivory" or "amber" to describe the color of the lamp. Or there is a word the bot didn't like in the title, tags or description. Then if image recognition is "enabled", who knows what the bot might see.

Re: Deactivating errors?

I went to my dashboard, community & help and contact and was pretty useless. Just keeps taking me in circles and its very frustrating. Haven't a clue how to contact them. If anyone can send me a link for seller support email or messages I would appreciate that. Thanks again

Re: Deactivating errors?

The shell casings I was selling, for crafts was removed from one of my shops over a year ago. This week I got an email stating the shells were removed from my other shop which were never in there and never reactivated on the other one.

If the email was legitimate and current, I would be ok with that. Making an issue out of a non issue, not too happy with.

Re: Deactivating errors?

I have 2 shops and I had to go through my first shop to connect to the community & help to be able to send an email for support. So now I need to ask them why my 2nd shop isn't working. UGH

Thanks everyone!

Re: Deactivating errors?

Would like to make a suggestion to Etsy if they are able to view these comments. Would love it if when we post items on Etsy, that there was an "option" on the page to scan the listing to see up front if there is anything that is in violation of Etsy for listings. Tried contacting Etsy and they were a bit rude, so thought this might alleviate issues when listing so they are not deactivated without knowing why. My listing had an everyday word on it that kicked the listing off. Nothing offensive so not being a BOT, it threw me off. That would help loads of people, I am sure. Thanks for the help everyone and have a beautiful week!!!

Re: Deactivating errors?

I would bet the oil lamp was deactivated for "drug paraphernalia". You have a combination of "oil" and "resin". I see it is active now, but know that Etsy reactivates and deactivates the same items on a whim.

Re: Deactivating errors?

HAHAHA, poor angel would  be a very inappropriate drug paraphernalia. I THINK, because I put the word flammable in my listing, would be why it was removed. It was a safety precaution but bots do not have the brains to figure stuff out. Only words with no direction.  We'll see how long it stays up. Oil and resin are every day non-offensive words. If I can think of another word for resin and oil, people would not be able to find my resin oil lamp in my store. OMG

Re: Deactivating errors?

My handmade products have also been taken down for no reason, I have complained and still no reply, I don't know what the situation is

Re: Deactivating errors?

What to do sell handmade that would even remotely be removed? Maybe we can help by seeing the listing and helping you find the problem. My item had one word that I changed which if a human read the listing, it was a safety measure I added. Bots are not bright enough to do searches and would be so nice if they would say why. Have a great day.
