Hello all!
Not sure if I can post/ask this here, but I need to ask. I went to customer support chat and asked a question about a suspicious email from a potential customer requesting for my email address. Then the customer support representative asked for my email address to report it to an investigating team who may contact me about the issue. Is this legit? Can/Should they do that?
Thank you!
The message from the potential customer is a scam. Did the first request for your email come as an Etsy message? Did you supply your address and then receive a regular email from this ''customer support representative'' who then asked for your financial information? Did you click on a link in order to contact that ''customer support representative''? Or did you contact Etsy Support through your Dashboard > Contact us option?
If you clicked on a link in the potential customer email message, I'm afraid you weren't speaking with a true Etsy representative.
etsy already has your email address.
where did you go to speak to a customer support rep?
SCAM. Etsy has your email.
Mark the message as spam and do not engage at all
If you are in your Etsy dashboard and opened the Chat that is inside your dashboard it is normal for them to verify by asking for your email however if you are not inside your dashboard RUN.
@VURVURU ... "Then the customer support representative asked for my email address to report it to an investigating team who may contact me about the issue."
If I understand you correctly, Etsy Chat Support (which you initiated with them) asked for your email. If so, that's ok. A customer requesting your email is a scam so you would ignore that message and send it to your Spam folder.
