Coupon Codes- Paused? Nope!

I had 2 coupon codes set up in my shop. 1 for an abandoned cart and 1 for returning customers. I wanted to try them out and see what kind of results I got so I could analyze how effective this reach would be. I have since "paused" both coupons. I understand the returning customer has ONE YEAR to use the code which means every customer I have is repeatedly buying with a discount. I am not so much concerned about this as I have no huge issue rewarding return business. What I am finding is that the code is being used by people who are not prior customers so its out there getting passed around and despite the fact it is paused it can be used indefinitely until that year expires.. what a joke! 

Now for the abandoned cart code... it shows "paused" but I am watching the stats of emails sent, codes used and the revenue associated increase in number every day. 

I have ZERO faith that either code will ever stop or work the way it was intended so does this mean I offer discounts forever? 

I reached out to support and was told a happy little sing song answer effectively ignoring the actual points and proof I sent. I was also told the codes could not be deleted. <insert multiple 4 letter words here>

Is anyone else experiencing this? I am beyond frustrated.

Etsy has made it where if any codes were set up with no end date, they cannot ever be deleted!  Many browsers have add on apps that automatically search for coupon codes, even Etsy codes, so while you may have created a code for repeat buyers, ultimately it can be used by anyone, even guests!

You might deactivate for a couple of weeks any bestselling listings that are being sold with coupon use. It's a horrible time of the year to remove listings, with holidays approaching, but you need to think as any business would.

Are the coupons available for all listings? I never use coupons. Your other option is adjust your prices upward to allow for indefinite coupon use.

Honestly, I build that all into my pricing. I price my items so that I can always offer a discount. Discounts really mean the world to people, and I will give them a "forever" coupon as a thank you for being my customer. I have SO many repeat buyers because no other store give you a discount every single time you buy from them. In the long run, those are hundreds of sales I wouldn't have gotten if I didn't offer that. Just something to think about.
