Hi,
I have another account that I have not used at all since 2018. I want to create a new store for specific cards instead of adding a new category. Since there's no existing store, and when you click on it, it shows a "Let's do this" button, my question is, if I create a store with that account, will the store date be shown as 2018 or 2024? I assume it will display 2024, but I wanted to confirm with you.
Best Regards
I'm pretty sure it's going to show the date the account was created. I created my account but then didn't actually start building a store or adding listings for almost 10 years, so my start date looks much, much earlier than it actually is.
Agreed. It's when the account was created.

Thank you for the response. That is why when I first opened my store, this was the actual account and I did not use it. That e-mail address is actually my main address so I wanted to check and ask again. May be there was a change but it is still the same.
If I decide to close this account, would it impact my other accounts? While it might seem like a straightforward question, I currently manage 2 Etsy accounts. I wish to close this specific old one I do not use, and I presume it won't have any adverse effects on the other two accounts where I actively manage stores. Can you confirm this assumption?
What's the upside of closing an old account? I would think it would be advantageous, especially if a store created with that account has an older date. Might deter scammers that seem to target new accounts.
Not sure, but I'd hold on to an old account.
The old account with zero sales may not serve as a favorable indicator of success in the eyes of potential buyers. Hence, my concern..
GlassyFields.....I was absent from Etsy for more than two years and the minute I started setting up for business the scammers started...Unfortunately.
Yeah, an account with an early date with 0 sales vs an account with a current date and 0 sales ...
I'm not sure which is worse - or better.
But I think I'd hold on to that old account just in case.
I think one could write an 'about section' which spoke to the old date. "I created my account in 2013 and am proud to finally list my handmade ..."
That's an interesting idea, but before considering it, I must mention that if I hadn't already opened two stores, this would be a logical message. The other potential risk also lies in the fact that buyers might not read it. I believe people, not because they don't like to read but due to the preciousness of time, may not engage with lengthy content. It depends on various factors.
Nevertheless, having an established history can be a positive signal. I plan to share my other stores to showcase my extensive experience in crocheting and crafting handmade items over the years. It is required by the way.
If you don't have an About section, then the year you started won't show on your home page.
Transparency is absolutely crucial because the market is rife with individuals falsely claiming to sell handmade items when, in reality, they are merely acting as retailers or middlemen. They purchase items elsewhere, often on platforms like Facebook, and then resell them without contributing to the creation or design process. Unfortunately, not all stores disclose this information, and some honest store owners choose not to create a separate section for such details, for various reasons. However, I am committed to transparency. Moreover, I am obligated to provide information about my other stores, as mandated by the about section, if I am not mistaken.
Not recommending it, just mentioning how some sellers avoid having the date they started their shop show. The only reason I have an About section is so that the date does show.
Just sharing a personal experience. I have another shop that showed since 2019, even though I created the account years before to buy something on Etsy.
I bought before I opened a shop and the date shown is when I opened a shop, not when I started buying.

If you are right when I open the store it will be written "Since 2024". If it does not show the date, I can simply close it and open a new one.
