I made a mistake while filling the onboarding information. I am trying to change the taxpayer information to Individual or sole proprietorship because I DO NOT have a registered business like an LLC. It says in my account: make any necessary changes, and re-submit it for verification BUT once I try to make the changes it gives me an error message so I have not been able to do something as simple as changing that. I had tried to get help from them but they keep sending me messages to provide information about my business and all I have is a DBA that doesn't give me an ID. That is why I made a mistake at first and I wonder if this can be fixed or if I am just waiting my time here. :S |
You should just enter your SSN.
I am trying to do that but whenever I select Individual or sole proprietorship and try to save the changes it says:
There was an error saving your taxpayer information. Please try again.
I am having the EXACT same issue. Have you been able to get your shop fixed yet? I am nearing week four now that my shop has been down and have four separate (closed) email threads and two thirty-minute phone calls with Etsy
I just gave up on this website. It’s been a month of me sending lots of messages and getting into different email threads for nothing :s
omggg this is happening to me tooooo ive messaged etsy like4 times and now my shop was placed on vacation mode!
Same here. There is no place to enter your social security number after trying to change to a sole proprietorship, which I think is causing the error. I have chatted with multiple people and they keep saying "engineering or IT will reach out" and they never do.
I know :S I am tired of getting into different emails to explain and explain what I need help with over and over.
I have looked all over the internet and haven't really found anything. The only thing that is disheartening is that if you registered as a business you may not be able to revert to sole proprietorship. There may be some confusion as to whether this might be an attempt to transfer ownership. Obviously, I don't really know. But what I would make sure of is that all the legal documents you submit have the exact same ownership name as the original ones you submitted.
You may consider trying to switch over to individual still using your EIN number as it appears that this may be possible.
If you’re a sole proprietor—meaning you are not a business entity that is a corporation, partnership or limited liability company—you may use your Social Security number for tax filing and reporting. Otherwise, you need a federal employer identification number (EIN) to pay taxes as a business.
Even if you’re a sole proprietor Etsy shop owner, you can still opt to get an EIN. This gives you a few privileges: You can hire employees, incorporate, form a limited liability company or partnership, and have a solo 401(k) retirement plan. Using an EIN instead of a Social Security number can also help to protect against identity theft and establish you as an independent contractor, lending more credibility to your business."
Your taxpayer ID (Social Security Number) is indeed what is normally used for individual. You may try sending an email to support. I think you should be able to send one here https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?segment=selling#issuelist_selling_on_etsy
I wouldn't suggest sending any personal information (such as SS#) in email. But there might be a better chance of it getting through to the right area this way. Good luck and keep us apprised of what happens.
I am struggling with the exact same issue and have reached out to Etsy multiple times with no help whatsoever. HOWEVER, I think I may have somewhat solved it?? I went to edit under legal shop information, and under "is your business a disregarded entity?" I clicked yes, and then in the box below it gave me a spot to put in my own SSN. I still can't figure out how to remove my old business info but at least now I think I will be taxed under my own SSN.
Did you end up getting it to work and Etsy accepting it?
I rushed in without researching, but I just got an LLC and EIN. I regret it! I don't make enough to maintain an LLC. I wished I would've researched what I really needed. I am now trying to switch my account back to sole proprietorship and having the same problem. My account is frozen and I'm fustrated!
How in the world do we resolve these things? Thinking of just shutting down this shop and opening a new one! Have my shop on vacation for now while I stew... grrr
Did Etsy let you go back to Individual/Sole Proprietor and if they did, how did you fix it?
@OjoDulceDesigns: I always wonder if when people want to change between business types, Etsy is considering that action as an account transfer between different legal entities which they do not allow.
I just got the LLC on Nov 15 using Tailor Brand and I just found out that your business should be financially stable before applying. I do not make enough. All this Tax stuff and legal forms, etc.... makes my head hurt. I'm now dealing with trying to dissolve it.
