I stayed up half the night trying to get my picture to fit the thumbnail. Nothing I tried worked. In fact I couldn't get any of my pictures to fit the featured thumbnail. Can someone please help me. I'm not even sure if this would be considered a technical issue. I just wasn't sure where I should post the question.
My advice, don’t use Etsy’s editor. Use an app instead, like keynotes, canva, etc. You can create a standard format for yourself in “landscape”. When you shoot your photos, keep in mind that your photo with be cropped automatically in Etsy. So leaving some negative space around your product….in your case, lots of black.
After you edit your photos, bring them into the app and pop it into a landscape template. then you can adjust it to how you want it to look in your shop. Since listing photos still show in this format when they are clicked, simply center your product in the middle. And you’re good to go. May sound a bit tedious but once you do it a couple of times it’s super quick and easy. Then you can just upload them to your shop and never have to crop or anything else.
hope that helps
I'm having the same problem.
Is your image square?
I tried to make it square, but it cut off half my picture
The thumbnail image on the listing form was changed from landscape to square a couple of days ago, so that it finally matches the square thumbnails on the shop and search pages.
If you use landscape photos, it's best to make sure there is enough space either side to fit into the square box. If you had previously used the adjust thumbnail zoom, try taking off the zoom then re-centering the image if necessary.

Hi, I was having the same problem for months until I discovered that the format of the photos must be:
4:3 - 1024x768px
For this I use the Canva application
I hope it helps you
Regards
The solution to this is simple. The pixel dimensions of your image should be 2000 x 2000. You can do this quickly and easily in programs like Photoshop.
Another alternative is to change your camera settings to take square photos.
Once I did this, my camera saved photos at 2448 x 2448 and they work fine on Etsy.
