Ok, it's a long story that I'm sure you've all heard before: Etsy deactivated my listing and gave a generic "violates handmade policy" reason.
Now I THINK I've figured out why. I believe it is because I listed my item as "_____ iPhone Case" when it should be "______ Phone Case Compatible with iPhone" But I'm insecure, I know how etsy doxes sellers and then suddenly you're permabanned. So I'm trying to contact them to make sure that this is the problem? There isn't something else I've overlooked? Several message submissions on their website have given me the same canned "read our handmade policy" response. I tried a chat today....same canned response. I even got an actual person on the phone! A little more of the same canned response BUT she mentioned something about checking that the taxonomy matches with what I am selling. And I wish I had a recording, b/c i swear she said "electronics and accessories cannot be handmade". (I took notes of our convo) and she mentions that my item does not match handmade. I tried to question her further, and gave an example of if I bought a blank T-shirt and printed my own design on it, would it be considered handmade? There was a non answer and she repeated that i should look into the taxonomy. When I go into the listing category, i type in "phone case" and it gives me a few options. The most straightforward being Electronics & Accessories > Electronic Cases > Phone Cases.
Can anyone give more insight as to what I'm supposed to list under? I am so confused...
First of all, the call center are not etsy employees. It's outsourced, so I wouldn't take any advice from them.
Secondly, etsy will rarely tell you exactly what the problem is because that constitutes business advice.
Are you sure it wasn't a trademark violation? Etsy doesn't always get the reason right. What exactly was the item, and what was your title/tags. Was it immediately deactivated upon listing?
The item in question was a phone case depicting koi fish and lily pads. Original title was "Koi Fish Pond iPhone Case" and tags were things like "fish, goldfish, koi, lily pad, pond, iphone case"
I've since replaced "iphone case" in my listings with just "phone case"
Don't know about phone cases but you have 2 Dr. Who listings = trademark infringement!
I agree with @InTheMarginsStudio. Remove all mention of brands from your listings - make them more generic. Etsy seems to be coming down hard on this.
