I am having problems with the new listing form. In addition to its weird nervous jumpy disposition and overly visual busyness, I am now unable to choose a category for the item I am listing. I am using the copy listing feature because I am listing something similar but instead of the previous dropdown feature, you have to search for a category, but the categories do not populate once you start typing EVEN THOUGH THOSE CATEGORIES EXIST. I am trying to list a vintage metal paint mixing tray, and palettes do not come up even though they exist as a category.
I'm beginning to think this is why there are so many things listed incorrectly.
Can anyone help? I just need to list my item under Craft Tools and Supplies/Visual Arts/Tools/Palettes.
ETA: The category "Palettes" pops up but only under "Paints, Inks, and Dyes", NOT under tools. They are not the same thing. A palette is a mixing board or tray and is for mixing actual paint, it is not paint.
@AnchorRoadVintage - scroll clear down to the bottom of the new one. Hit cancel. It then gives you the option to use the old one.
Try using the old listing form ... it works!
Yes, it does work! I'm sometimes unable to get it to use that though.
I can't!!! It keeps defaulting to the new one. Believe me, I try.
@AnchorRoadVintage - scroll clear down to the bottom of the new one. Hit cancel. It then gives you the option to use the old one.
Thanks! I didn't see that.
@AnchorRoadVintage - one thing you may run into when you do that is that when you go back to the old form, it won't give you the option to pick a section. Only workaround I have found for that is to deactivate the item momentarily, go to your inactive listings, pick a section then activate. Such ridiculousness!
This doesn't work at all.
All It does is say you're leaving a secured page and I lose the listing I spent the last half hour making!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, it's apparently programmed to categorize a mixing palette as the same thing as a paint set because it did ask whether paint was included so I have categorized it as a palette under "Paints, Inks, and Dyes" even though that's artistically incorrect. I will use that.
The new listing form is awful. I have been sitting here for 40 minutes on ONE listing. ONE. And that's using the copy feature, which is supposed to save time!
Etsy technical staff-please note what I have marked as the solution for this thread. I'm sorry to discount anyone's work, but this is one "improvement" that does not work well.
whomever created the new listing form.
has never had a shop on etsy.
i refuse to use it.
@nineteen27 - Same here. Until I am stuck with no other option, I will not use that new one. It is a mess.
So much fun having to blindly type a bunch of things and hope it's recognized, like the colors and categories. My gosh, you would think they would realize drop down menus are faster and they can rack up listing fees faster the faster people can list.
I will say at first I really didn’t like it. It is more busy than necessary and more click happy. It took me several weeks to work out the variations. I can now use both the new and the old version. I thought it best to school myself as you never know, the old one could go away next week and then where would I be? I do send in Feedback but historically when these things are rolled out, the ‘old version’ disappears after a time. For now I use the old when in a hurry and give the new a try when not as rushed.
@MetalRocks - nope, I thought of that as well.
Unfortunately, I think if people give in and use a new "unimproved" option, they think we like it and make it the only choice. If people refuse to use it, they may get the message!
I will use it if/when I have to...until that time, why put myself through all the problems?!
I told myself to suck it up and learn the new form but the problem is it's not just a new form, it's not really usable at high volume. You have to blindly type in your colors and categories hoping Etsy recognizes it, especially the categories and it's REALLY easy to pick the wrong thing when it gives you several suggestions instead of drop downs. The photo drag and drop is...odd. Up down all around. One big, lots of small.
I completely agree with everyone else who posted here.
Oh, Etsy, Etsy, Etsy. Own it and fix it. Or abandon it and start over.
They don't even show the good sense to be embarrassed when they do such a bad job "improving" something.
@AnchorRoadVintage If the new form doesn't give you the option to pick a section, I have listed it and then do quick edit to get it into the right section.
Click on the category box and enter the term you are looking for. That will show all categories and sub categories pertinent to the search term.
What browser are you using for connection to Etsy some browsers don't allow secure cookies and other protocols. I started up again with Edge, and it seems to work better, but I have Issues with ME with secured sites.
