Can't Save Listing Changes

Seemingly at random, I'm having trouble making changes to my listings.
I've experienced this with sold-out or inactive listings being renewed, as well as listings that are already active, and it applies to both physical and digital products. I might just change a few words in the description, update images, change tags, etc. I've experienced this both on desktop and in the Sell on Etsy app. I'll be editing listings with no issue, and then out of nowhere:

"Hm, we’re having trouble saving your changes. Try again, and if this keeps happening contact Etsy Support."

I'm incredibly frustrated as I have tried everything - logging out on desktop, trying multiple browsers, re-installing the app on my phone, clearing cookies/cache, backing out of the listing and trying again. Nothing works. The only solution I had in the past that reliably worked every time was using the old listing format, but with that now gone, I have no way to update my listings when I encounter this issue. The only other solution I have seen pitched is to make a new listing, which is absolutely absurd for my listings that are already active, as I would need to pay 20 cents every time Etsy has some type of server error.

I hope someone else has found a better workaround, but at the very least I think it needs to be known to Etsy that this is affecting so many sellers. This issue tremendously hurts my business.

I contacted ETSY help three days ago about this, I was told they would inform the team dealing with this issue.  Etsy should really have sorted this problem before taking the old listing form away.

I am still having the problems today.

From what I've seen in the forms in the last 24 hours, it seems we aren't the only ones. I wasn't too bothered before the old form is removed but now I feel really deterred from spending so much time polishing my listings in the first place. Thank you for sharing, even though you don't have a solution. Hopefully Etsy reaches back out to you soon!

Hi, Can you please more specify if you feel okay, If you are changing the image tags as well, this error might be because of that. As i got this error once when I was changing in my image tags.

Note that the OP specified this happens when trying to edit an expired or sold-out listing.  This has been my problem too, with the new listing form - since it was introduced.  You could try the copy feature, and save as a draft, or just publish/renew first using the gear icon on the thumbnail, then edit once it's active.

I know some people are having issues saving edits on active listings too, but you could try this.

We came back off vacation mode, I was able to post ads without making any edits, but if I want to make an edit then I get an error code. I got an automated response that said the usual sign out, sign in, try another browser. None of that worked, I'm using a MacBook, I tried it on a PC too and have tried 3 browsers.

It's really frustrating to not be able to edit an ad!

I was able to post inactive ads without making changes, but then when I go into the now active ad to make edits, I can't update the ad and it won't even save it as a draft, I just lose all my edits.

@onewoodthink  Hi, I remember seeing posts about this, and one of the suggestions was to go into Core Details. Something about that section (I believe), was triggering this issue. I hope this helps you.

An update, I did go into Details and then the "Core" category where before all I needed was that it was a "physical item" - I noticed there are more radio buttons asking for more details like how was it made, I filled it all out but sadly I was still unable to save the ad. UGH, so frustrating!!

Also, I saw in another Thread, you asked if Etsy will let you revert back to the Old Listing Form. Not any longer. We used to be able to do that, but as of this year, Etsy did away with the Old Listing Form permanently.

I did try changing from a "physical item" to "Digital" - this change did take effect, and I was able to post the ad.

But unfortunately, in case anyone else is interested that has the same issue, it only made it worse, I tried to then go back into the now active ad and change it back to a physical item and it didn't allow making the change, I got the darn error code again and I had to deactivate the ad, and pay etsy 20 cents for the nonsense.

I am beyond frustrated - and it seems like so many people are having this issue, I even see it on the Etsy Seller Reddit boards, just no solution,

I do think this is an issue stemming from the old versus new form, I created these ads with the old form and now I can't edit them using the new form.

@onewoodthink  I don't know what else to suggest. I remember this being an issue with the New Listing Form, and I thought how ridiculous, when people can't list due to a listing form. I used this form for the first time when I reopened my Seasonal Shop (end of Summer). And I was preparing for problems, but I was shocked when there were none.
I never created a listing from scratch (which sounds more problematic). The tasks I did do:
Renew Sold > Edit
Renew Inactive > Edit
And for a Newbie, I used Copy > Edit.

Sellers shouldn't be hindered from listing due to a site's Listing Form. And because we can no longer switch back to the Old Form, it's imperative this New Form works.

Just an update to anyone else trying the fix of "change Physical to Digital" and then back again.

When I tried this, and I was able to save the changes, it deleted all of the variations in my ad, of which there were dozens and dozens.

I had to deactivate the ad because I could not change it back from Digital to Physical. Then when I looked at the ad, ALL OF MY VARIATIONS had been deleted when I changed to a digital ad, and I wasn't able to save the original ad as a Draft copy. So now all of that is gone.

This has been very frustrating indeed.

This has happened and continues to happen because sellers are missing one of the "key" details that Etsy has deemed must be completed in the various details when setting up a new listing or editing an old or expired listing. Also be aware that if a response isn't compatible with a response that was ticked in another area that it will not save. I learned that there are certain things that must be completed before it will save if items are handmade. They are (in no particular order):

1. What type of item (physical or digital)
2. Who made it
3. What is it
4. When was it made
5. How does shop produce
6. What tools are used
7. Production partners (if any)
8. Category
9. Shipping option
